    1. [WVPRESTO] 1860 Cupp children
    2. JoAnn
    3. I am descended from William H. Cupp born 6 Dec 1853 (per death certificate) in Preston Co., VA. He is living in the family of James M. Carroll in 1860. He ran away from that home 3 Oct 1868. I know that because Roy Lockhart found a notice in the Preston Co. Journal and gave me the information. Below I am listing the CUPP children who are in the 1860 census for Preston County but not in a Cupp family. Can anyone tell me anything about these children? I looked at the 1850 Preston Co., VA census and found only one child living with another family. They could be grandparents or relatives so if you are familiar with these families, please let me know. JoAnn Cupp Grass Valley, CA joanncupp15566@att.net In the 1860 Preston Co., Va Census I found 5 childern between the ages of 7 and 13 who are not living with CUPP families. Here are the details: In 1860 Muddy Creek there are 2 Cupp children in other families: Caroline CUPP age 13 in the family of John Jenkins (age 57) Isaac N. Cupp age 13 in the family of William N. Smith (age 62) In 1860 Brandonville there are 2 Cupp children in other families: Anne Cupp age 7 in the family of William M. Guthrie Mary E. Cupp age 10 in the family of George Rischel (age 53) She married Andrew J. Spindler and her descendants are still searching for her parents. In 1860 Masontown there is my great grandfather: William Cupp age 7 in family of James M. Carroll who is not a relative as far as I know. He married Anna Hannigan born in Preston Co and living in Barbour Co. with her parents Thomas and Mary Everett Hannigan at the time of their wedding in 1873. In 1850 in Preston County I found one girl: Clola Cupp age 12 born VA living with Christian Core age 63 born in MD and Mary Lewis age 52 born VA

I am looking for a "Jones" family that lived in Evansville, Indiana in 1957-1958. I am sure there were numerous "Jones" families even in the 50's. My father was adopted but his real birth name was Michael Anthony Jones b. January 17, 1958 at St. Mary's. The mother was around 17 years old in 1958. I have concentrated mostly on y-dna and have a website at myspace.com/dnacaptain but I hope in obtaining my father's mtdna to locate his mother's line. Any information you may have gathered since 2003 may be helpful. Thank you, Steve Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi, my mother was a Mosser from Clifton Mills, Preston Co. WV. How are we connected?? I have to tell you that my grandmother Mary Agnes Shaffer's mothers maiden name was (Lenora) Saucer. My mother always said she didn't know much about her Preston Co. relatives----but she remembered that "a Cupp married a Saucer"!!! I haven't found it yet---but maybe I will ----someday. My mothers parents were; Hampton "Hamp" Frederick Mosser & Mary Agnes Shaffer married 1905. I am not sure of a connection with your other surnames. I do remember the Thomas surname. But, I would like to compare my Mosser line with you.. Take care Pat H.

    1. [WVPRESTO] Cupp surname
    2. JoAnn
    3. Pat H., Could you tell me about your Cupp family? I am descended from William H. Cupp who was born in Dec of 1853 and lived with the family of James M. Carroll in 1860. Then before the 1870 census, he ran away from that household. I have never discovered why he was not in a Cupp family. He must have been orphaned or his mother was not married. I seem to recall that a Cupp girl was in a similar situation in 1860. Would that have been your Cupp ancestor? My William married Anna Hannigan in 1873 in Barbour County. Prior to 1900 they moved to Tyler Co. His death record states that his father was John and mother Lucinda. I found a singe Lucinda, d/o single Susannah whose father was John but never found a couple with the names John and Lucinda. I am still hoping to find his parents. JoAnn Cupp Grass Valley, CA

    1. [WVPRESTO] Collins and Tasker families in Preston Co., WV
    2. JoAnn
    3. I am doing some research for a friend whose grandparents were Clyde A. Collins and Emma Mary Sheets. Her great grandparents were George Collins and Lydia Ann Tasker Collins. I found death certificates for George and Lydia. George Collins (b 1846) was the s/o John (no mother is listed). I believe George was born in PA, although there are censuses that say VA/ WV. Lydia Ann Tasker (b 1846 in VA/ WV) is the d/o Henry and Matilda Tasker according to her death record. There are lots of Taskers in Monongalia and Preston Counties but I have not found Henry. From reading old messages from the archives of this mailing list, I see that many of the Collins families in Preston County are descended from a large family in Fayette Co., PA. The parents for Emma Mary Sheets listed on her death certificate are Henry and Matilda Sheets. I have not found a Henry Sheets in censuses so far. Is anyone researching these families? Do you have any ideas for me. Thank you. JoAnn Cupp Grass Valley, CA

I obtained his Civil War pension records in hopes they might contain a clue but found nothing in them. I was told by one of his descendants that it appeared he had gone by the name Harrison Plum until his enlistment at which time he enlisted as Harrison Zinn. Some have wrongly placed him as a son of George Dent Zinn and Mary Sharpsbut this was a different Harrison (different birth date, different spouse). Others have placed him as a son of Peter Zinn and Charlotte Matlick but I'm not aware that this can be proven. I do have a Catherine Zinn that would fit your timeframe - she was the daughter of William Zinn and Margaret Martin - her siblings were born between 1807 and 1830 but I don't have a birth date or any other info on her. I also have an Asa Menear s/o Samuel Manear and unknown Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [WVPRESTO] I. Jane WHITE
    2. Maria Brower
    3. Can anyone identify this person from the 1880 in Preston County, Valley District page 35 I. Jane WHITE age 10 is the grandaughter of Willliam George White and Susanna Jane (Ridernour) White. It is possible that her father was Madison White from a first marriage. Madison's wife listed on the same census is Mary L. [sic] (Thomas) White. She is only 17 and has one child age 8/12. Madison is older, age 31 and I have always wondered if he was married before and have not been able to find him on the 1870 census in either Preston Co. WV or Greene Co.PA, the two places I know he has lived. IN the 1880 Preston Co. census the family looks like this: White Wm. G. age 61 [head of household] Susanna age 63 wife C.M. female age 21 daughter Madison age 31 son Kalley B. age 8/12 G. daughter I. Jane age 10 G. daughter Maria E. Brower, Grass Valley CA
