I don't have any other info on her yet, but since it's Miller and Fike, they could be related to your ancestors somehow. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Carol: Here's the little I could find - > James H. Carroll started a newspaper called "The Preston County Herald" in October, 1870. In 1877, the name was changed to the West Virginia Argus. The paper was printed in the Bishop building on the east side of Price Street. Later they moved across the street ad then to the basement of the Martin building at the corner of Price and Court Streets. > William Carroll opened a store about 1831 on the site of Corbin's storeroom.(?) > The Carroll House, on the west side of Morgantown Street, was built by the father of James Carroll in 1863, James bought the house from his father in 1867. This house was built with local brick. Subsequent owners were General C. C. Pierce, and J. Donald (Happy) Everly. Happy also started the Hotel at the Inn in September 1932. (There's a pic of the Carroll house in the book, but this group doesn't allow pics to be posted.) 1. Re: [WVPRESTO] A book on Kingwood
    2. Joe & Erin Hartman
    3. After getting few requests, I should probably clarify the scope of this little book I have. The guy that wrote the book (W. G. [Bill] Williams) got his research material out of the two "Preston County History " books, the Preston County Journal newspaper, and the Kingwood Library. There's no real genealogical info in the book, nor is there any attempt to document any or all of the residents of Kingwood. It's mostly about how Kingwood (the town - not the residents) came to be over the decades and centuries. If there is a reference to people, it's because they played a significant part in the history of the town - owned a business, built a significant building, had something to do with the history of the town or the state, etc. Some sections have no mention of any people at all - for example, there are a few paragraphs about the cannon in front of the courthouse. If you have any ideas that your ancestors may have fallen into any of those categories, then they may be mentioned in the book. There are entire sections devoted to early store owners, to James Clark McGrew (he was a VA and WV legislator), to William G. Brown (another VA and WV legislator), to Elihu Gregg (he burnt the courthouse), to William Mercer Owens Dawson (he once owned the Preston County Journal), etc. This may just be a book documenting all that Bill Williams knew about the history of Kingwood! But ... I'll keep trying to find folks if you keep requesting. 3. RCF: Didn't see any, but this little book only seems to have info on folks who owned businesses or built large houses that were downtown or in the close vicinity of downtown Kingwood. There's quite a bit of stuff on certain people, but abolutely none on most of the others. One of my ancestors has a street names after him/her - the street is only a few block off downtown, but there's no mention of these folks except for one guy who apparently owned a small store!
