Many names found in West Virginia (VA) were also found in the bordering state of Maryland. Sometimes the deeds tell real stories. I just found a deed that showed the selling of the land for my 4th g, grandfather, Nicholas Paugh, after his death. It names his widow, Sarah and several of his children and his son-in-law(my g, g, grandfather, John Friend). It seems that by the time Nicholas died (still owning Military Lots) that his 13 children and in-laws could not decide how to divide the land so it was all settled in a Court of Equity (land was sold by a Trustee). Amazing too was that the land was purchased by a man (Brant) that ties in with yet another Friend line (not my direct line). Reading the deed is like reading a little story about those on my family tree. I hope you, and others, find lots of good information in the deeds. Hello Terri, Thank you for the picture of Marcellus and Naomi. I can not email pictures. If you wish what I have let me know. At present there is too much snow for me to get out. I am over 80 and do not like to drive when the weather is bad. When I do get out, I am making copies for those who wish them. I have to snail mail. Thanks Janice, When I first started looking for the Bucklew cemetery, I consulted your books "In Remembrance", they come in handy!! Would you happen to know where the Harold Lakin Bucklew farm was?? I found Harold buried in the Terra Alta cemetery, so I don't know if he lived west or north west of Terra Alta?? David had 14 children, but none named Adam or Sybilla, or Ezra, Henry or Mary. The only name connection I've found is that David had a daughter named Elezan, born 1847 in Ohio, and Jacob (his cousin?) had a daughter Ellazan in 1869 in Maryland. I have David's family thoroughly researched. He married in Ohio in 1825 -- too early to be named in any Maryland census records. No Adam or Sybilla in the next generations. My husband is descended from this David who married, raised his family, and died in Jefferson County, Ohio. David's death record says he is the son of Adam Hauser. The only Adam Hauser I could find in Maryland who could be David's father was the Adam who married Sybilla Yantz. The baptisms of several of Adam and Sybilla's children are recorded in the books of St. Paul Lutheran in Cumberland. But those books list NO baptisms between 22 December 1800 and 14 January 1802, even though there were several every month in other years. Of course, our David's birthday falls right in the middle of that gap! So I have been researching Adam and Sybilla's family as though they are ours, until and unless I'm proven wrong. I suppose the only way to know for sure is with DNA. Question - do you know when Adam Hauser died? do you know where he and Sybilla were buried? Thanks for replying, Christine. It's ironic that the family of our surname is the one I'm having the most trouble with. Mona Houser Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
