    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: chidkid Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.preston/2758/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Trying to locate ancesters of my grandfather, william F. Chidester. He had stated that he was PA Dutch, B: 1870 in Peach Orchard, IA, Married to Mattie Ratliff. His father was supposedly a William also and his mother was Ellen Lamb.He had 2 brothers Charles (Tuck) and George(Lee). My research shows that there never was a Peach Orchard IA but right across the border in IL there is a large area called Peach Orchard and although most census show him an being born ia IA the 1930 cen. and 1880 KY, Madrid Bend Fulton Co. show IL as birthplace. My assumption is that he was b: 1870-72 in IL. his mother was in fact Ellen Lamb b: 1844 in IA.His father was Samuel b:1843 PA. The family name is Chitester. They were married at Jones Co. IA in 1863.Samuel age 27 and Ellen age 24 are listed in Jo Davies Co. IL 1870. In 1880 they appear to be in Madrid Bend, Fulton Co. KY, Sam'l is listed as Louis b:PA, Ellen, B;IA and 3 sons. William age 8 B: IL, Charles age 6 b:iIA, and George age 2 b:KY, Louis' brother M. Chidester. I think there father was Joseph B:abt 1808 PA and Mary b:abt 1807 PA and 7 children, one of which is Sam'l age 9 and one is Martin ane 16 (matches 1880 kY). Cannot find any info prior to Joseph. The family name here is Chittester. His mother I believe is the daughter of Edward and Catherine Lamb of IN both originally from Ireland. most of this info is assumed and I am hoping that some Chidester, Chitester, Chittester researcher can set me straight. Any help at all, greatly appreciated. Please reply or contact me at chidkid@flippinweb.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Thank you very much for looking. Our family tree ties into so many families in Preston county that it becomes a daunting task to sort out the"who and where". Also since I don't live there I have to pester my family about where some locations are. Thanks again. 2. I'm interested in Charles Franklin Donovan(b.3/1/1875) and his wife Elizabeth Brumbaugh Donovan(b.1880?). They were married in Shenondoah county, VA. in 1898 and they raised a family of 5 daughters in Rowlesburg, W.VA. at the turn of the century. They were my grandmothers parents and I don't know were they are buried. I have information on the Donovan's of VA., but very little on the Brumbaugh's of VA. . ----- Original Message ----- From: elliottfamily00@comcast.net To: wvpresto@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, February 19, 2009 5:17:18 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [WVPRESTO] Rowlesburg Cemetery Ms. Sisler, Do know if there are any Donovans buried at Riverview? There is a Death Record for Elizabeth at the WV Archives but it appears they have not yet microfilmed her full death cert. so this record does not say where she is buried, but it does give you her dod. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=4770690&Type=Death Just today I discovered a Brumbaugh, in a branch of my Hartman family, with the place of birth listed as Virginia. He is listed as Houston Curtis Brumbaugh b. 8 Dec 1897, according to his WWI Draft Reg. Card, and who m. Nellie Virginia Hartman b. 1898 in Upshur Co. WV and died in Minneapolis, Hennepin, MN (if I've found the right one.) According to Nellie's Mother's 1938 obituary, Mrs. H.C. Brumbaugh was living in Morgantown, WV. According to the 1900 Census, Houston C. Brumbough b. VA was living at Ryans Glade, Garrett Co., MD with parents listed as Joseph W. b. Jun 1861 VA and Anni E. b. Jun 1866. Regards, Jane

Knotts, page 128 and 129. Goldie C. Knotts born April 1, 1893 in Preston County, the daughter of Phillip Sanford Knotts, born August 13, 1851 at Fellowsville, married Feb 17, 1878 to Martha J. Sheets, born May 22, 1857. Phillip Sanford Knotts was the son of Thomas and Mary (Wolfe) Knotts. Thomas Knotts, son of Robert and Barbara (Six) Knotts was born about 1805 in Monongalia (now Preston) County, VA. He has been described as "a great sportsman, interested in running dogs and blooded horses." Thomas married Mary Elizabeth Wolfe about 1841. Mary was born about 1810 in VA. Thomas was a farmer and they resided in the Reno District of Preston County. He died there of "lung fever" on April 11, 1879. Mary's death was not recorded. They are buried at Mt.
