They had never heard of Cheat Hill, but said Cheat Mountain is on Route 50, Which would be in the bottom part of the county. Pleasants District is in the north, so maybe they aren't the same thing. I have a map that shows the different districts in Preston County, but I don't know how I'd show it to you. I got it from the 1870 census I found at the library. It may help. Hi, Pat, There is\was a place named Cheat Haven in Fayette. It may be an AKA for Lake Lynn, or it is slightly west of Lake Lynn in Springhill Twp., sitting just above the Cheat River and down river of the Cheat Lake dam. I believe there was a mine located there. Best regards, Jane

    1. [WVPRESTO] Unfortunate News
    2. Hello to all, I hope this reaches the message center for this website.  I am in unfamiliar territory. My father, Richard Falkenstein had several messages from many people with the common "wvpresto" tagged on the subject header.  Hopefully it reaches the people who know him. I am sorry to bring the news that my dad passed away last Sunday (Feb 22) from a sudden, massive hemorrhagic stroke.  He had started and managed several geneology websites.  He was very passionate about his "roots."  Hopefully there are folks out there who share the common interest and can help each other in sharing the information.  My father hoped I would pick up the task once he was unable to do so but I don't have instructions or the methodology.  I was not able to travel due to recent surgery and I live in Germany.  This has been extremely frustrating.  If anyone would like to contact me, my email address is jhasenbein@googlemail.com .  I am not sure I can be of any help with regards to my dad's work.  Give me time and I will try to figure it out. Thank  you and I am sorry to pass on this sad news. June Hasenbein

Hi, Carole, Oren Morton writes in his History of Preston that a Henry Sliger settled near Clifton Mills about 1820. Sounds like a good candidate for an ancestor. Then in another section of Morton's book he has Henry Sligar marrying Mary Dennis, and on another page, there is a Mary Dennis m. Henry Sliger; she is a dau. of Christopher Dennis. Lucian b.
