    3. This book can be ordered from the Preston County Historical Society. Here is a link to their website: http://www.hhs.net/sss/preston/pchs.htm This is a wonderful book, and those of us who have searched high and low for it are very very happy and appreciative that they have chosen to reprint it. At least this way it can be affordable. The first time I looked for the book about 3 - 4 years ago I only found one and it was over $100, and I said no. The next time I found one it was over $200, and I just knew I would never be able to have one. I say thank you so very much to all who worked so hard to make this happen, and a special thanks to Janice. I sent my check immediately, and am anxious to get my copy. I am sure this book will be wonderful for all who have Preston County roots, and I try to tell everyone I can about it. Thank you PCHS! (By the way, why not become a member? Best $5 membership there is, including a newsletter.) Happy Thanksgiving to all. 3. Carolyn - The 3rd printing of the 1979 Preston County book arrived yesterday, the Pioneers of Preston a few days before that - early!!! (In doing a book, that never happens) Those who ordered only the Pioneer book - I think those went out yesterday or the day before. Combined orders for the '79 book and the Pioneer book will go in the mail the first part of next week. Thanks for your enthusiasm and support. Those who wanted the '79 book reprinted are really needed right now. It was a very expensive undertaking. Janice SHUPE@citcom.net wrote: > Hi Janice, > > How is the Preston Co.book coming along??? 3. Debbie, There was a Casper Everly family in Monongalia Co. His will was presented Dec. 1800. This Casper Everly owned property out toward what is now the Ft. Martin area. One of his descendants, Sondra Lee Everly presented a paper some years back. 3. Delores: Vestus and Martha Murray Thomas had the Home Hotel in Bruceton Mills and that may have been a convenient place for your people to get married. Martha continued to operate the hotel and live there until she died as I remember. They were Church of the Brethren as far as I know. I have known members of the family, and later lived in an apartment in Morgantown which was owned by Vestus and his second ?wife. One of the descendants is working on extensive details of the family and I'll give you his address privately. 2. Greetings from CA, Does anyone know anything about Vestus Thomas? He lived in Grant District, Preston Co., WV. The reason I'm asking is my grandparents Elias Oliver and Lula Pearl (Bowman) Goodwin were married at his home in 1904. Vestus Thomas is listed as a farmer in the 1900 Grant District census. Was he a Justice of the Peace or a Minister besides being a farmer? What church would Vestus be associated with? In the census he is listed with his family: 97-98 Thomas, Vestus, Head, white, male, b. October 1874, 25 years old, married 7 years, born PA, parents b. WV, Farmer. Martha, wife, white, female, b. September 1870, 29 years old, married 7 years, 3 children, 3 children living, b. PA, parents b. WV. May, daughter, white, female, b. September 1893. 6 years old, single, b. WV. Blanche, daughter, white, female, b. February, 1891, 4 years old, single, b. WV. Ray, son, white, male, b. February 1899, 1 year old, single, b. WV. Who was Martha, Vestus's wife? 1. [WV Preston County] Daniel Myers, Preston Co., WV, b. 1818; Correction/Confusion
    2. J. M. Freed
    3. Below is the message which I had sent earlier (11/16/01) about my Daniel Myers, in response to Cathy Simmons's web site on which she listed, in Preston County, WV, Daniel Myers, born 1838, son of William and _________ Daniels Myers. I had concluded that this was my Daniel Myers, since he is listed in Oren F. Morton's "A History of Preston County, West Virginia" (originally published in 1914; reprinted by Clearfield Co., 1997), page 457, that mentioned that William Myers m. _____ Daniels, and among his children was a son Daniel Myers, who married Eva Wile. HOWEVER, there is confusion somewhere, as was called to my attention by another genealogist. My Daniel Myers was actually born ca 1818; he is listed as age 62 (wife Eve, age 63) in the Sedgwick County, KS 1880 census (they later returned to Preston Co, WV). The problem, apparently, is that neither Cathy or I are working with any primary records here. Any Myers' genealogists have any solutions to this confusion?
