Janice, do you or anyone else have a Mary Jane Fuller or Margaret Fuller married and/or divorced from Jacob Plumb? There is a record of a Mary Jane/Jacob Plumb divorce, but no last name. My mother's family record said Jacob's wife's name was Fuller, but I have found no record of this. Beverly in AZ

I second Bonnie's opinion of the book "Pioneers of Preston Co." If you want clues as to your Preston Co. surnames, this is a good one to have----and it's a great! price. My Bishop/Bishoff, Carrico, & Brandon families are in there. As with all books, one needs to verify the facts for oneself. My Carrico family appears to have misinformation in the article attributed to Oren Morton. At least, records have surfaced that refute some of the connections. Janice, are you or the Historical Soc. taking corrections and additions to the "Preston Co., WV History " 1979 book? How would one go about submitting data? I imagine that an update book, somewhere down the line, would be a best seller for the Society, too. =;o) Is the 3rd printing close to selling out? I think I convinced at least 5 in my family to get it before they are sorry for not doing so. It took me 30 yrs. to wake up!!!! Warmest regards and thanks again! Caorlyn

Where can I purchase this book and how much?
I have a copy of " Pioneers of Preston" compiled by Janice Cale Sisler and wanted to let all of you know it is a genealogical gold mine of early county surnames and little tidbits of info about the families. This is an addendum to Morton's History. Thanks Janice for a great resource and for donating the proceeds to the Preston County Historical Society. For your info : "Main Street Deli and Diner " in Terra Alta has copies of all the books offered by the historical society where you can review the books before buying, these include : " Images of America, Preston County" by Charles Thomas. " Preston County , Va, { WVA} Records" by Roy Lockhart. "Pioneer Families" Janice Cale Sisler "The Past is a Key to the Future", Betty White. and the reprint of "Preston County WVa History". other research materials are printed and indexed census records for Preston- 1850, 1860, 1870, some marriage records , 1860 to 1885 I think.. This place is clean and has really good food at good prices the only drawback is NO COPY MACHINE.
is anyone else searching the William Smith Family who lived in Corinth and Austen? Looking for William and Elizabeth Deahl Smith and their children William, Simon, Daniel, Della, Daisy, Bertha, Julia, Ethelinda, Geroge, Charles, Lucy, Charles E and William H After the death of William, Elizabeth took the younger children to Austen to operate a boarding house there for the Austen coal mines. thanks Bev
Dianne, You got down RT 50 W if you are heading from DC area or above DC taking it to Marquess Rd. which is on left just abt 500 yards after you pass the Fellowsville State Park. Next you proceed up Marquess Rd. until you see a church and white building . The church now has a fence around the graveyard. I knew the caretaker of the cemetery it used to be Archie WOLFE who is now deceased. The cemetery records the last time I heard was held by one of his daughter...I believe she is the one who reside in the house which is blue right behind the Mt Israel Church....Archie WOLFE took it over from his brother Aubrey WOLFE who had it prior to this...He was the elder brother to Archie. I grew up from infancy to age 15 yrs old only living 5 houses below their farm remember Archie and Aubrey talking abt the old cemetery and going out to dig a grave and if they hit a body they would move to another area in the old section of the grave in the old days when the graveyard was ran by their father. I have the history on this church erection somewhere in my file cabinet. I hope this helps.........Donna Donna's Tombstone Project updates 10/29 Researching......Wolf, Balliet, Bolyard, Riley, Goff, Stone, Pratt,, Ketterman, Ryllie, Thomas, Sidwell and many more in Preston Co, WV, York Co, Pa, Pittsburgh, Pa, Shenandoah Co, Va, Germany,& Lorainne, France..Working on a Book of all my SURNAMES in the above counties PLUS I am trying to do a digtal tombstone CD project of all Preston, Berkeley, & Jefferson Counties..D

----- Original Message ----- From: Walter Boice To: "Undisclosed-Recipient:;"@greater.net Sent: January 12, 2002 2:40 PM Subject: 7 Wonders A group of Geography students studied the Seven wonders of the World. At the end of that section, the students were asked to list what they think were considered to be the present Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following got the most votes. 1. Egypt's Great pyramids. 2. Taj Mahal 3. Grand Canyon 4. Panama Canal 5. Empire State Building 6. St. Peters Basilica 7. China's great Wall While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet girl, hadn't turned in her paper yet. She asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The quiet girl replies, "Yes, a little, I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many but I think I have them now.". The teacher said. "Well, tell us what you have," The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are: 1. to touch 2. to taste 3. to see 4. to hear She hesitated a little, and then 5. to feel 6. to laugh 7. and to love. It is far too easy for us to look at the exploits of man and refer to them as "wonders" - while we overlook all God has done for us regarding them as merely "ordinary
