Hi Bev, It sounds like we're probably reated in some way. My sister-in-law is a Wiles, my aunt married a Shannon, some of my ancestors were Fortneys, and some of my ancestors were Watkins' - all from the Tunnelton area. Some of my ancestors were Wolfes too, but from the Bruceton Mills area. I can't answer any of your questions, but would be happy to share anything else I have on these families. I haven't read it through but it's counter part "History of Marion County" proved very worth while for me. I guess it mainly depends upon what it is your looking for. I would recommend it. barbi
Evelyn, there are at least 2 separate Snyder families that settled in Preston. Which one are you searching for? Jean

Does anyone have a listing for Foster Fisher's death? It should be between 1870 & 1880. I'm trying to see if there's mention of his parents' names. Thanks! Evelyn, I check the "Preston Co. WV History" book and found 4 Snyder bios. The earliest accounting I see is of a John Leonard Snyder b. 1885 at Horse Shoe Run. (of Noah and Sophia Calcamp Snyder). The others are after-1900 bios of individuals. In this particular book, the spouse's bio is often included under the surname of the husband. Makes it tricky to just look for one surname, alphabetically. You will find that your surnames may be buried within many other bios of another name. There is no index to the book mentioned above; therefore, one is pleasantly forced to read the book, cover to cover. =;o) That goes for the "Pioneers of Preston" book, as well. Clues may be found just anywhere. Warm regards, Carolyn

I am looking for any informattion that will tie a Jane ARNOTT to Alexander FORSYHT/FORSYHTE. In a land transaction of 1880 Jane ARNOTT is listed with Alex FORSYTHE & Mary FORSYTHE. Mary Forsyth/Forsythe was the mother of Alex [Alexander W.]. Alexander had a sister named Jean or Jane. Could she have married a Mr. Arnott? Any information will be appreciated. Thank you so much for the info. I went to the site and am not opposed to purchasing any of the books. I am however looking for information on the Snider family. The surnames listed on the site in the Pioneers . . . book did not include Snider. If there are references to my family I will buy them. Can anyone do a look up and tell me what is or isn't there?
