According to the stories told by John Snyder the siblings: "John, Elias, Nimrod, and Julia walked from Kingwood, Preston County to Mason County before the Civil War." Julia could only have been about eight years old. The children seem to have changed the name from Snider to Snyder at that time. A Thomas and Elizabeth Snyder were already living near Elmwood in Mason County at that time. Later narratives have confused Thomas and Elizabeth for their parents. I believe that they do have connections, but I haven't ben able to document anything as yet. Until I have some "paper proof" such as birth, death or will records etc., I do not make any claims. Can someone who has access to the 1860 Preston County Census do a "look-up" for me? I have located the name of John PAUGH -Preston County. The page number given in the index is 202. I have the ancestry.com deal, but for some reason I can't get it to cough up that page. The index is extremely clear as to what page it is on. I got the index info from a Census index book Thank you for any effort given.

Wendy - The old churches at Cranesville are all gone. Records for only one of them are known and they do not contain genealogy-type information, nor members of the families you are requesting. Churches in Preston County, except for the very earliest Lutheran church, have not kept much in the way of births, deaths, marriages. Sorry.
