I'm curious if you might know anything about the name of the Goshen Baptist Church in Greene Co., PA. The Baptist association of churches in the counties of northcentral West Virginia are called the Goshen Association; the Forks-of-Cheat Baptist Church, founded in 1775 in Monongalia Co., WV is a part of the Goshen Association. Is this just a co-incidence, or is there a relationship that goes back to the days when Virginia claimed what is now southwestern Pennsylvania? Sincerely, Steve

Susie, This is ALL the information that is in the book: TICHINAL, DAVID Service--Virginia Va. No. 6812 No. S. 7727 Born in Morris Township, New Jersey, October 16, 1764; resided in New Jersey until 1780; resided in Hampshire County, Virginia, for two or three years; then in Harrison County, Virginia, and died in Allegheny County, Maryland, in 1854. Soldier enlisted in New Jersey in 1780 and served nine months under Captain Richardson and McCarty in the army of General Green on guard duty. His certificate of service in the militia as a substitute for his father, Moses Tichinal, dated March 12, 1782, and signed by Captain Isaac Parsons, is filed at the War Department. Pension was granted in Harrison County, in 1833. Supporting data was filed by J. Copin, R. Moore, H. Gross, and John Smith. It appears that David Tichinal served in the VA Militia in place of his father, Moses. The National Archives would have record of Moses Tichinal's service in the NJ Militia. He is not included as a Revolutionary War soldier in the book by Ross B Johnston. Roy Lockhart On Sat, 9 Mar 2002 17:27:26 -0800 "youngl" <youngl@rosenet.net> writes: >Yes! Janice, No, the book is strictly an alphabetical compilation of Revolutionary War soldiers who resided in West Virginia. Many of these served from other States. Morton's History of Preston Co names these pioneers as having served in the Revolutionary War or in the wars with the Indians in Ohio: Robert Beatty Eliphalet Chidester Jacob Feather William Hebb Andrew Johnson John Kelley Ambrose Lipscomb Daniel Martin Joseph Mathew Daniel McCollum James McCollum Robert McMillen Abner Messenger William Michael John D Orr George Wolfe Jacob Wolfe Of these, only the following are included in the book, West Virginians in the American Revolution: William Hebb Andrew Johnson Ambrose Lipscomb Daniel Martin Daniel McCollum Robert McMillen Abner Messenger John D Orr The following Preston Co residents are included in West Virginians in the American Revolution but do not appear in Morton's list (there may be others): Thomas Brown Nicholas Casey Leonard Cupp John Hartman Jacob Hartzell Levi Hopkins Isaac Mathews Thomas McGee Thomas Rinehart Jacob Wagner John Wilson Roy Lockhart On Sat, 09 Mar 2002 14:50:14 -0500 Janice Sisler <bjsisler@access.mountain.net> writes: >Roy - Is there a roster of the NJ soldiers in the VA Militia at >Cornwallis' surrender?
