Hey Rosalie, Yeah, I think I made some headway. Thank you very much for putting me on the trail. Another fellow you may know, Roy Lockhart, sent me the page number in the 1850 census listing the Joseph Ringer family with son Jacob (correct age). I had already found the Adam Rosenberger family with Mary on the next page. So, they were childhood playmates. Beverly Domer sent an 1880 census transcript with the Jacob Ringer family and 8 children. Added to what I already had, there were 13 children. The 1900 census stated 11, so something's amiss. According to the Fike book, Mary Fike, born 1798 is my 4th ggm, Anne Fike born 1779 married a 3rd gg-uncle, Christian Mosser. Anne and Mary were cousins. Well, got to close this computer down and hit the hay. After work Monday, I need to go to Milwaukee to catch a plane early Tuesday to see my dad. Thanks again. You've been a tremendous help. RINGER / Mary Catherine ROSENBERGER Doug, Congratulations! It pays to persevere. Did you see the Jacob Ringer on today's WV.Preston Co. web? If not I will send. Out of curiosity is that Elkins, WV where your Dad lives? If so, my cousin and her husband run a TV business there. You and I are distant cousins through the Fike and Thomas families. I felt as we searched there was a distant connection. Those old Brethren, Amish families were very clannish. I have found the Fike Book a wonderful resource for the period 1770 to 1980 for the people I am related to. The index is great and saves time. Do not forget the Hardy and Hampshire Co. Ringer families to search. Also, Fayette Co. and Somerset Co., Pa. and of course since, Garrett Co, MD is so close to Preston Co. it is a good one to look at. Although, if my aging memory serves me right, back in the 1800 it was part of Frederick Co. MD. With the help of some listers, I finally think I figured out a little about my ggm, Hester Pearl Ringer. I ordered the Christian Fike book, and found some cemetery records on line. I was looking in the 1900 Preston Co census records for the Jacob Ringer family with no luck. Stumbled onto them in Wharton Twp., Fayette Co., PA in 1900, then Mary again in 1910. Did not know they ever lived in PA, but it was probably after 1897. Mary, Jacob, and Pleasy are buried in WV, and Cally was born in 1897 in WV. For Jacob Ringer, I have no idea of his ancestry. For May Catherine Rosenberger, I have considerable info from the Christian Fike book. Thomas F. Ringer was a connection I guessed. He was the next family entry in the 1900 census (which states Jacob and Mary had 11 children, with only 5 in the household). Thomas is listed with wife Dora M. and dtr Edna M. Cally is listed as Mary's daughter in the 1900 census, but Mary would have been 55 when she gave birth. Hard to believe? For the "Unknown" children, I just guessed that if they were listed as alive in 1900 and no longer were in the household, they were probably at least teenagers. The 1910 Miracode lists two grandsons born in PA, Walter L., age 8, and Russel F. BISHOP, age 6; and 3 children born in WV, Milton, age 30, Emma D., age 28, and Pleasy E., age 24. No idea of who the parents are for the grandsons. Below is the info I now have. If anyone can fill in some blanks or correct some information, I'd appreciate it very much. ----------------------------------------------- Jacob H. RINGER Birth Date: Place: 12 Jul 1838 WV Death Date: Place: 20 Feb 1909 Burial Date: Place: Noah Thomas farm cemetery, Brandonville, Preston Co., WV Events 1.
