GREAT -- I am ready to seriously work on this MASON/CASEY family -- we (CLARKSON -grandchildren (and great grandchildren) of Maria MASON CLARKSON, daughter of William F and Jane MASON) have a family picnic on the third Sunday of July(every year since 1925) here in South Dakota; although first cousins from WV often come. There are quite a few who are interested in genealogy and I would love to have some real information about the MASONs. We (my family -my Dad who is 84) have been to WV & Maryland several times. And my niece just moved to Columbus, OH so we will probably visit again this fall. Do you have those hand typed genealogies I think from the Preston County library? I have seen all different spellings for this surname. And they are found in WV. As well as Ontario Canada, Michigan, Ohio, PA, and out West. It just seems too close with the spelling. If you find nothing for Knisell, try the Knisley/or Nicely surname, and a fellow named Larry at this forum, or the other forums. Another Knisley/Nicely descendant is exploring the Native American possibilities in our family in early Virginia. Get back to me if you need leads on this. Kathy

Phillip Sterling b. 12 Feb 1796 m. Elizabeth Bryte b. 1815 on 18 March 1855 according to the Marriage Register in Preston Co. His birthdate was derived from his age listed as 59 yrs. 1 mo. 10 da. Her birthdate was derived from her age listed also. He is also thought to have another spouse Kate/Catherine Bryte. Elizabeth and Kate/Catherine were daughters of John and Esther/Easter Gibson Bright. Barbara, The Preston Co courthouse and records burned in 1869. Duplicate birth, death and marriage records 1853-60 were sent to Richmond VA prior to the courthouse fire. There are no official marriage records for 1836. Other than the records of the Lutheran church, I know of no Preston Co church records for the 1830's. The History of Preston County West Virginia Vol I by Oren F Morton, 1914 has information on the Gandy family but not the date of marriage for Owen. On page 433, he states that Amos Gandy, son of Samuel, married (1) Mary Menear, (2) Susan Moore and that Owen Gandy, son of Amos & Mary (Menear) Gandy, married Drusilla? Jefferys and moved to Indiana ca 1852.
