Dear Susan, How generous of you to offer to scan articles from your uncle's fragil book! I have a suggestion. Use a digital camera with macro capability, preferably on a tripod, to photograph the page on which the article is located. upload the picture to a folder in your computer and label it by page number. This is much easier on the book and just as good as a scan, and it is MUCH faster than scanning! I know because this is how I recorded family history pages in old bibles. Good luck, and thanks again for your kind offer Joaquina PS: if you come across any SIMPSONs or MASONs, I am interested!

Susie Young, Thank you, Susie. Yes, that information was what I was trying to add to in some way. I believe I am a descendent of Jacob Plum who is mentioned as "a half-brother" to James Plum. I have come to the conclusion that the two are brothers and sons of the John Plum who married Sarah Jacobs. I had wondered if Mary Tichenell was a first wife of this Jacob, as I have found no date of the marriage of John Plum and Sarah Jacobs. Does anyone have any further information on the relationship of these Plums?
Robert, I have Steven Titchnell b. Jun 29, 1772 and marrying Lydia Metheny, b May 2, 1785, d May 26, 1866, abt 1804, son of Moses & Margaret Titchnell. They had 8 children: Mary "Polly" b Oct 12, 1802; James, b Feb 4 1804; Rev. Moses, b abt 1805; Rebecca, b. date unknown; Stephen, b Oct 6, 1823; Margaret, b abt 1805; Rev. Daniel, b Aug 1, 1815; Joshua b. 1911. My desktop got hit by lightning on Saturday, plus it looks like some viruses got pass Norton. While my son was working on it I got two viruses on my laptop. Now I am using the laptop and my fingers are to big, so I hunt and peck. He worked 4 hours on it last night and has to come back later. Bill Pyles

"The History of Preston Co., WV." 1914 The brothers Jacob and Peter Fike were in Grant in 1810. The latter appears to have no posterity here. His son, Levi, a miller, is remembered for his practical jokes. Jacob, a son of Jacob, built about 1835 a massive stone house about a mile north of Brandonville. George Fike lived on the Jeremiah Thomas farm in Grant and went to Ohio about 1835. A son, Jacob, who removed to Maryland, had twelve children, mostly born here. One of these is William H., of Hazelton. Peter Fike came to Union from Fayette about 1853 and located a mile and a half south of Eglon. The connection is rather large. ===== src. Brethren Encyclopedia "FIKE FAMILY. This family emigrated from Germany. The first ancestor of record is Christian, Sr. (d 1771), who in 1745 settled in Bern Twp, Lancaster Co. PA (now Berks Co.). Christian Sr., was the father of three sons, all Brethren: John (D1829), Christian Jr (1761-1851) and Jacob (c.1769-1841). "John settled in Brothersvalley, Bedford Co. PA in 1779. In 1800 he moved to Selbysport MD, where he died. Some of his children remained Brethren. Christian, Jr., married Christiana Livingood. It was through her influence that he joined the Brethren. He died in Somerset Co. PA. Jacob moved from Somerset Co. PA and settled about 1812 near Markleysburg, Fayette Co., PA, where he helped establish the Sandy Creek congregation. Later he moved to Ohio where he died. "Peter (m. Magdalina Arnold), son of Christian Jr., moved to Eglon WV, in 1854. Three of his sons were ministers: Samuel A, Aaron, and Moses. They and their descendants were very active in helping to organize many Brethren churches in W VA and Maryland. There are descendants of Peter throughout the Church of the Brethren. "Christian, son of Christian Jr., moved to Iowa in 1855. Later generations spread through the west. His descendants, also, are active Brethren. "Related Brethren families include: Thomas, Bittinger, Schrock, Lichty, Arnold, Miller, Weimer, Myers, Gnagey, Blough, Reiman, Berkley, and Musser. Numerous ministers and layment of the Fike name have given and continue to give years of devoted service to the Church of the Brethren, Brethren Church, and Grace Brethren." Beverly, I have some Titchnell's (maybe different spelling) in my family line which go back to the original pioneer, Stephen Titchnell according to Morton's "A History of Preston County, Part I". He had a daughter, Mary, born about 1801 and died in 1881. I haven't dug far enough to determine a marriage. Stephen supposedly came to Preston County in 1797. I don't know if this helps.
