    1. Shank Family
    2. CYNTHIA SHANK
    3. I am looking for anyone that has connections to the Shank family that spent about 20 - 30 years in Preston County back in the late 1800. I have just started working this line and believe that they came from Pennsylvannia to Maryland to West Virginia with some moving on to Michigan sometime in the 1920's. This is my ex-husband's family and his father has passed so my starting information is a bit limited. I do have some names and dates so if you have a Shank in your tree, no matter how vague, please contact me directly at [email protected] Thank you, Cynthia Walters Shank

    2. Hyde
    3. Roy: Thanks for the Info. I am wondering if maybe a Carrico married the Widow of Julius Hood. Not having any dates makes it difficult to research. Julius Hood left town about 1816 and I can't find Hoods in 1820 in Preston Co. All the people from Preston Co who are in Lenawee Co. MI are living in the same Town as my John Conley Hood . I can not make the link from John and his brother Frederick Hood back to Preston Co or to any family. If there is no Francis Carrico where did Morton come up with the name? Georgina

    3. Georgina, Portrait and Biographical Album of Lenawee County, Mich., Chapman Brothers, 1888, page 720: Samuel G. Wotring...was born in West Union, now Aurora, Preston Co., W. Va., May 1, 1840... The mother of our subject, whose maiden name was Ruth Hood, was a native of Preston County, and is also living at an advanced age. Her father, Julius Hood, was born in Virginia, where he was also reared and married, but in the early settlement of Ohio he went to that State to take up land, making the journey from Virginia on foot, and while there was taken sick and died. The Carrico information in Morton's History of Preston County is mostly incorrrect. On page 419 he lists the family of a Francis Carrico. At least two of the children named, Eliza and Melinda, were children of Peter & Catharine Carrico. No record has been found of this Francis Carrico in the censuses and tax lists of Monongalia and Preston Counties.. Also on page 419, Morton states that Catharine - sister to Francis - m. James Goff. Catharine was the daughter of John Turton Goff and had a large family by her uncle James Goff. James Carrico and Nancy Holbert were married in Monongalia Co Dec 30, 1813 but I have no further information on the other children as listed by Morton in the Francis Carrico family. To add to the confusion, a genealogy of the Carrico family was published in the April 30, 1908 issue of The Preston County Journal which includes the wife of Julius Hood as a daughter of Francis Carrico but Morton does not include her in his history published six years later. 2. I am very interested in your Weaver project-- I show Jacob Weaver son of Henry and Catherine born 30 June 1776, baptised 28 August 1776 in the Middleton Reform Church, Frederick Co Md. sponsors were Jacob and Barbara Fluck. I was surprised at his death record which seems to have misinformation about his birth---shows a Nancy Weaver as his consort ---- Nancy Weaver reporting the information. Unless Jacob had a daughter or grand daughter named Nancy and a court employee just got part of the information wrong I don't know who this Nancy Weaver could be. If Nancy Bell Weaver (Henry Weaver's second wife) were still living in 1853 when Jacob died she would have been in her mid 70's and I don't believe she would have been reporting the information. I would like your opinion on this death record information?????? Carlton Weaver has recently put a booklet together on his findings of Henry Weaver Sr's ancestors a good bit of circumstantial evidence however appears to be too coincidental. I do believe it is the correct line. I am very interested in your project keep me informed. Jackie Good Greathouse

"Bud" King, was my grandfather -born in 1874. I found the large family listed in the census of 1880 Grant Co. Also, what was the birthdate of Ida M? The Lucinda Harvey, who married Jesse King, is not Lucinda Jane Harvey who married Capt. James W. White. Her birthyear was ab. 1847. She died in 1912. She was my great-grandmother, my grandmother's name was Emily Jane White King. Her husband was Emanuel "Bud" King (of Grant Co.) Garrett Co. MD. M. Frances

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IEC.2ACE/1155 Message Board Post: Brenda and Pat, Ingaba White m. a John Gilpin before she m. Joseph King. She was a widow when she married Joseph. I would think that the Thornton Gilpin would be her son from her first marriage with John Gilpin. Ingaba was the midwife attending Sarah Jane, wife of John B., at the birth of Ida M. In 1860 she inherited her father William White's farm known as the King Farm. They built a log house with a great stone chimney ca 1845. It was still in use in 1940... Wow! This info comes from an outline by Marie McClure that my mother found at the Garret County Historical Societ in MD. Also in this outline, John Green King's son Jesse King lived on the Copeland Farm a mile from Shaw, WV and m. Lucinda Harvey on 1/20/1842 in Hampshire County (Also married Margaret A. Kemp 11/24/1846?) (Lists children as Samuel b. 1847 and mary b 1848 so I would say these are Jesse and Margarets children). I may have mentioned in another posting, but I descend from John Green King's son Isaac from his 2nd marriage to Julia A. Lee. Would either of you, by chance, have any other information/stories/photos, etc. of any of these families you would be willing to share? Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of Isaac or Julia and would love to find some! but could give some information on them. If you would rather email me, that would be great! Have a great day!
