Surnames: Nordeck Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IEC.2ACE/1167 Message Board Post: Hi Everyone, while working on the family history I came across something not only strange but kind of shocking as well. The 1900 Census for Michigan. This is for Coldwater, Branch Michigan I came across The Michigan State Public School which seems to be some type of boarding school or children's home. In it there are listings of several hunderd children first and last names with dates of birth and ages yet all have place of birth and parents as being "UNKNOWN" and all are "Wards" of the school. Among them I had found Fred Nordeck, born abt.1889 at the time of Census he was 11, birthplace unknown, parents both unknown. Now I know Fred had parents but I have been at a loss of finding any kind of birth record or even anything after the 1900 Census on him. I have written to the local paper there and even to the adoption agencies around the area with no response. If Anyone has any idea let me know as for now he is a loose end in the family history. [email protected] Thanks.

    3. In Samuel Wiley's book on Preston County it mentions I. Lee Cooper on Page 466, and W.P (Maj.) Cooper on page 153. I own the index, but not the book. In later years there were Cooper families across the Preston line in Garrett Co., MD. An older female Johnson, Sarah, is also living in the home. The census does not list relationships, but you could research this as Isaiah's possible mother. In 1870, Rachel is a widow with a 6 year old daughter, Hannah E. I have been unable to find them in 1880, but will keep searching. Also, one census notes that James was married before his marriage to Hannah. I haven't found him in 1880, but he was possibly married to his first wife. I hope this helps!

What I have found is this as to "George Shaver" along with the relationship on our side. George W. Shaver b.12 Dec 1844 d.2 Jan.1919, son of Heinrich Shaver and Malinda Funk. George W. Shaver married Amanda Jane Watkins b.1851 d.1880 m. 21 Oct. 1869. They had four children however only three seem to be listed on several records. The children were: Thomas Shave b.7 Jan 1870, Cora Amanda Shaver b.18 Jun 1871, Anna Jane Shaver b. 14 Apr. 1874 and Acanthus Alanthus Bard Shaver b. 20 Apr. 1875 d.5 Nov. 1930. m. Rebecca Ellen Lantz b.1882 d.1929. Between them they had 15 children among them Genevieve Merle Shaver b.22 Mar.1919. who later married Asa Nordeck b.1901 d.1966. Marriage was in 1936 I'm not sure if this helps you or not however does all seem to tie in as to "George Shaver" and the Nordeck side of the family. If you try to research the children of Acanthus Alanthus Bard Shaver and Rebecca Ellen Lantz, their 15 children it really gets detailed and spread out.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IEC.2ACE/1163 Message Board Post: I have been trying to contact "Jon" who said he had a small book on a "Brief family history of the Nordeck Family". I have the Travel Papers of John Fredrick Nordeck who came here to the US. I would love to have a copy of the book or at least be able to see it as it would help me greatly. There is something incorrect in it though. John Fredrick Nordeck wasn't he "TRUE" name, he chnaged it to that when he got here. His travel papers read as follows.Johann Frederick Nordeck, born and living in Roedinghausen, with himself, to visit relatives (to travel) from Roedinghausen to Bremen to North America, traveling in a certificate from the local police. Identified as trustworthy, so this person received this passport, and after requestiong all civil and military authorties, he may travel and return, and in an emergency under their (this) protection. The passport (travel papers) were Prepared on the 17th of march 1842 and he began his trip on the 2nd of April 1842. Johann Frederick Nordeck is described as being protestant, 24 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, blond hair, blue eyes, reddish beard, with a split chin, oval face, medium build with a scar on his left hand and left index finger. He was a cabinet maker associate in Roedinghausen which was a part of the Royal Prussian States. The orginal document was translated for me into English and certified to be a true copy and the English Translation to be correct on December 25th 1977 by I.T. White Notary of Preston County, West Virginia who's commission expried at t he time on November 6, 1985. I would be happy to share this along with many photos that I have of my family that I have received from my grandparents and parents on the Nordeck , Fitzgerald, and Saucers. There are some others as well with names but don't have them in front of me right now to remember them all. Feel free to contact me via my email address. [email protected] and I will be happy to hear from any and all as I am trying to work hard on the Nordeck Family History as well.
