Dale E. Walker, Sr. August 16, 2010 NEWARK: A Mass of Christian Burial for Dale E. Walker, Sr., 82, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2010, with Fr. Bob Penhallurick officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Walker died at the SharonBrooke Senior Living Center on Saturday, August 14, 2010. He was born in Reywood, West Virginia on January 26, 1928, to the late Robert L. Walker and Annie B. (Flanagan) Coon. He attended Bruce High School in McCool, MD, and received his GED from St. Francis de Sales High School from the sponsored Veterans Diploma Bill. Mr. Walker served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the Yosemite in the Asiatic Pacific area and also served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Walker was a life member of the American Legion and VFW Post 1060, retiree's local Union 1037 and Heath Eagles. He was also a former member of the Elk's, Moose Lodge and Druids. He retired from the Cutter Grind Department of Rockwell International as a journeyman after 30 years of service, where he was also a U.A.W. Union Steward. He served on the Loan Review Board at the former Rockwell Credit Union for many years. He was an avid golfer and formerly belonged to several bowling leagues. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout Europe, in the near and middle East, Israel, Tokyo, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Bali, Scandinavian counties, South America, Africa, Egypt, Peru, the Amazon, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Russia, numerous trips to Mexico and Canada, and most of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. Mr. Walker was the assistant Boy Scout leader for Troop 8 of St. Francis de Sales for many years, and was a recipient of the Saint George Medal. Later he started and became Advisor to Troop 8 Explorer Post, taking scouts to Philmont, N.M., Jamboree in New Jersey, and the White Water rapids in Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Millie (Smith) Walker; his son and daughter-in-law, Dale, Jr. and Alicia Walker; his daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Timothy Grace and Christina and Robert Winegardner, all of Newark, and Jane Nott Arter of Buckeye Lake; seven grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; two great great granddaughters; and four step great great grandchildren; his half brother, Robert L. Walker of Jacksontown; his step sister, Marie Liller of Newark; and his sisters-in-law, Lee Walker, and Jean Flowers, both of Newark.
