This Catherine was probably born about 1780. However the Catherine who married Thomas Simmons in 1813 was born Catherine Varner. Catherine Varner married Michael Harold, Jr. in 1805. Michael, Jr. died October 4, 1807 and Catherine then married Thomas Simmons in 1813. Catherine had a couple of sons, John and Elias who were raised by Mr. Simmons. When they were adults they were variously listed on tax rolls, etc. as both Harholt and Simmons. My information comes mostly from Jeff Carr of Virginia who has done detailed research on both the Simmons and the Eckhardts and by association, the Harolds.
