    3. Steve, you raise some really interesting questions. I checked "VA Militia in the Rev. War" by J.T. McAllister, which contains many of the men's service declarations, and the only person who mentions serving with Peter Hull is James Steuart, who served under him in June 1781. And John Hogg, who was one of the youngest people on the 1779 muster list, in his declaration of service does not mention ANY service before Jan 1781. Verrrrry interesting. I wonder if the original muster list still exists somewhere and if the date is clearly readable. Of course it's possible that Peter was captain in 1779, was discharged or transferred for awhile, and returned to take over as captain in 1781. Most of these men only served for 2-3 months at a time, then left, then returned to service as needed. --Holly
