The center of my request was the following: "An undated partial marriage bond in the 1788 envelope of Pendleton Co misappropriated papers in Morgantown. John Crossmug and Peter Hoover were bonding for an unknown woman's marriage (the ink has faded completely from the body of the instrument). " I posted the query to Pendleton County and to other counties that people immigrated from in the 1700's to Pendleton County, VA now WV. I want to thank everyone who responded and so far have had over 70 responses.....name still in "limbo"...but you have given me more roads to travel...Ya gotta love all of those clerks, etc who practiced "phonics before it's time". .Most responders suggested either GROSSMAN or CROSSMAN.....some sent me actual names and dates of people for me to do further in-depth research on for a connection....but then I was given other possibilities to look at: 1. guess would be that the Crous/Kraus/etc portion would follow along.  And that the 'mug' portion was perhaps mach or mugh, or muth, or macher. 2. Krausmeir? 3. If it is german wouldn't it be Krutz______something or other? 4. Grassmage,Grossmoge, Grossmog, Krassmage, Krossmoge, Krossmog Crassmage, Crossmoge, Crossmog 5.
