Samuel's parents are in conflict!! On the colonial Frederick Co. Md. census there is a Samuel in the household of Leonard and Tabitha, I believe he was 14 yrs. old on this census putting his birth at 1762. Researchers state that his tombstone shows he was born in 1757 - I believe he died in Ross Co. Ohio. There are stories that he married Margaret Cohagen, an Indian princess in North Carolina. I don't believe that has been proven. There are several theories on who his father was. If Samuel's father is not Leonard, then what happened to the Samuel in the household with Leonard and Tabitha? Also, I found a reference today in Hardy Co. Will and Deed Abstracts for a Samuel Day in 1798, it had to do with a will. Leonard had several references in Hardy Co. in the late 1700's. There was also two references to a Bazle Day. This doesn't prove that Samuel is tied to the Leonard Day family, but it does show that he may have had some dealings in Hardy Co. Also, the SAR recognizes Leonard as Samuel's father. It seems to fit that Samuel's father is Leonard. What really bugs me is, where did he come up with those unusual names that he named his children, for example Demoville Talbott Day, Hedgeman Day, and Ovington Day!! And of course there is the tombstone!! Any ideas on this? I have an idea about the unusual names. The first names you mentioned might have been surnames of friends or neighbors, i.e. Talbott, Hedgeman, Ovington. You might be right about that, there must be some reason for those names or else old Samuel was on unique individual!!
