    2. And, if these all trace back to a common ancestor the DNA will not answer the question. The Y-DNA can only show that two persons share a common ancestor, but it cannot tell WHO that ancestor was. Of course, this assumes that you have a "true" blood line through all the generations without an "out of paternity" event. Just the other night on TV was a bio on a famous movie actor (which I could now remember who) that did not know until after the deaths of his mother and grandmother that the lady whom was raised with him as his sister was really his mother, and his "mother" was his grandmother. His aunt confirmed this to him after the tabloids found the truth. Bottom line, it always takes at least two to confirm a Y-DNA profile, and the further removed they are, the better. If first cousins match, that only tells that they share the same grandfather but tells nothing of the great grandfather.
