There is also one in Tucker Co WV but I think the Rockingham one is closer to the North Fork of the Potomac River. I'd also suggest going to cyndislist.com and seeing what there is to offer in the Maps category. If you want him after 1805, do you know who John Dolly is? Since Samuel Day sold all of his known land to him, I'd wonder if Dolly was married to one of Day's daughters. Also, do you know where the other children were living? Samuel and/or Margaret could have been living with one of them. Do you have probate records for Samuel Day? Even if there is no will, there would be court records appointing an administrator of the estate. Further, do you have the actual deeds or just the abstracts you posted? The actual deeds may contain more information including family references. Land sales often took place quite a while before they were recorded. 1 Oct 1805 seems to be the record date. It would be interesting to know if the two parcels of land were actually sold on the same day. Are these abstracts from Rick Toothman's book? If so, I'd think he would have included the other info. -------Jo Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Additional information - Grant County was formed from the western portion of Hardy County in 1866 so the line in the Chamber's survey which was the Hardy-Pendleton line in 1795 is the Grant-Pendleton line on a modern map. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sandra Keltner<mailto:Slkmallow@msn.com> To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com<mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> ; wvpendle@rootsweb.com<mailto:wvpendle@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 01, 2009 7:17 AM Subject: Re: [WVPENDLE] Where did Samuel Day live? In the immense land grant (22,750 acres) to Joseph Chambers on 26 Dec 1795, the following is a small portion of the description found toward the end: Pt Two elms at the River corner of Harper's old and new survey and with the meanders of the River 3,490 poles Lm N26.5E; ; Pt Point of rocks just above the Clay Lick and along the rocks Ln N45E; 16p; Pt Birch, two lynns and a spruce pine at Samuel Day's land then up the County line and crossing the South Branch with the County line Ln S51E; 890p; The Clay Lick mentioned in the 2nd Pt (point) above seems to be described as just south of the Hardy-Pendleton County line on the North Fork (which is the River mentioned in the 1st Pt.). Since Samuel Day's land is mentioned, this is most likely the land that was of interest.. The bulk of this grant of Chamber's lay between the North Fork and the South Branch at the northern end of Pendleton County. In the 3rd Pt, notice that the Pendleton-Hardy County line runs east from the birch, two lynns, and spruce pine on Samuel Day's land. This isn't described as a corner on his land so it may be that his property lay on both sides of the line - a comparison would have to be made with the description of his property to be certain. However, it's certain that some portion of his land was on - or very close to - the North Fork at the county line. (There are 16.5 ft in a pole but Virginia surveyors often used a looser standard before 1800.) ----- Original Message ----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com<mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com<mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com%3Cmailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com>> To: WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com%3Cmailto:WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com>> Sent: Wednesday, April 01, 2009 3:47 AM Subject: Re: [WVPENDLE] Where did Samuel Day live?
