    3. The first transaction you mention regarding John Dolly's 197a from Wolf is regarding land that is described as on Buck Lick and is specifically excluded from a large grant to Robert McCullock in 1796. That places the land south of the large Chambers grant (mentioned in an earlier email) and on the east side of the North Fork (considerably further south than the Samuel Day grants which were on the North Fork near the Hardy/Grant Co line). There is another grant that appears to join the 197a and it was to John Dolley [a spelling variation] for 140a as assignee of Philip Helmick. It's described as between his own land (the 197a) and Chambers' land and was patented 2 Dec 1803. ----- Original Message ----- From: Becky<mailto:rlucas@neo.rr.com> To: wvpendle@rootsweb.com<mailto:wvpendle@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 05, 2009 8:18 PM Subject: [WVPENDLE] more on Samuel Day land The earliest record in Pendleton County of a land transaction involving John Dolly was dated 7 October 1793. It documents the transfer of 197 acres on North Fork River from John Wolf of Botetourt County, Virginia, and his wife Magdalene.10 This perhaps refers to the property which became the Dolly homestead. It was followed by grants from Samuel Day in 1805 for two properties opposite one another "on the North Fork of the South Branch," and a grant from Zebulon Dyer in 1811 "adjoining Dolly's own land."11 There are intriguing indications in a later land record which support the theory that Dolly was a landowner on the North Fork as early as 1785. Most of his real estate was dispensed in two deeds of 1847. Because that was the year of his death, these transfers will be referred to here as deathbed grants. The first of these, dated 22 January, deeded to Andrew Dolly-the eldest son-one of the acreages purchased in 1805. The second deathbed grant, dated 8 February 1847, conferred to John Dolly, Junior, 148 acres, the bounds of which correspond to no other Dolly deed on record in Pendleton County. In its own words, the grant bears "date by patent 4th of May 1785."12 This wording does not prove that John Dolly, Senior, was the person to whom the land was patented, but it certainly does not preclude that strong possibility. Eve Dolly who married Ambrose Day in Pendleton co. Va. was a daughter of this John Dolly..... . Eve Dolly, a daughter of John Dolly (1807 - 1891) m. 1831 to Ambrose Day (1806 - 1878) Eve was born presumably on the original Dolly homestead in Pendleton Co., Virginia. Her marriage to Ambrose Day, performed by George Raines, was recorded in Pendleton. He was perhaps the son of either Ezekiel Day or Basil Day, early taxpayers in Pendleton County. Eve and Ambrose migrated to the Midwest, apparently going first to Fayette Co., Ohio in the early 1840s, and then to Tipton Co., Indiana, about a decade later where a number of other Pendleton County families were settling. They lived out their lives and died there, being buried in Normanda Cemetery in Jefferson Township.Eight children have been identified. i.a. Susan(na) Day (1852 - 1854) I am a descendant of Basil Day b. 1771 who married Susannah Lamb in 1794 Pendleton co. Va. Ambrose Day who married Eve Dolly was his son.My line is Elizabeth Day and Christian Hedrick. I believe since Samuel and Margaret Day had interactions with the Dolly family they could very well be related to this particular Day family that goes back to Leonard Day b. 1736/7 Prince George Co. Md. who moved to Frederick Co. Md. and fought in the Rev. War as did Samuel and both came down to Hardy Co. Va. after the war. I know many have tried to prove Samuel is from a different Day family, but it seems likley that he isn't.
