Although only distant cousins of mine, this family gets more interesting all the time. The following is based upon marriage and death records, etc., but the footnotes do not copy easily. Please let me know if you wish specific citations for any of these items. Celia's oldest sister, Hannah Christena Sites, was born 28 May 1855, Pendleton County, Virginia, the daughter of Job and Mary A. Sites. She married Jacob Lewis, a widower, on 27 November 1872 in Randolph County, West Virginia. Hannah C. Lewis died 26 July 1878 from consumption in Pendleton County where she was born. She was 28, the wife of Jacob Lewis and daughter of Job A. and Mary Sites. A son of Hannah and Jacob Lewis, aged 3 days, died 18 July 1878, eight days before his mother. Catharine Lewis, the [first] wife of Jacob Lewis, died 1869 in Grant County, West Virginia, aged 25, from "scare and miscarriage," the daughter of Jesse and M. Keysimor. Their unnamed son died from "abortion." Catharine (Keysimor) Lewis was a sister to Jonas Kisamore, the second husband of Hannah's aunt Hannah Harper. Jacob Lewis, a widower aged 30, married the third time to Phebe J. Hedrick, aged 23, on 12 February 1880 in Pendleton County. As his fourth wife, Jacob Lewis, a widower aged 46, ma! rried Jane Thompson, aged 33, on 6 December 1891 in Pendleton County. Jacob Lewis and Mrs. Jacob (Jane) Lewis are buried in the John Thompson Cemetery, south of Riverton, Pendleton County, but no dates are given on their markers. [Transcription in the PC Grave Register--I have not viewed the stones.] On 26 March 1888 Jacob Lewis conveyed to James P. Sites his interest in the land conveyed to his wife Hannah Christena by Johnson Sites, guardian for the heirs of Job A. Sites, deceased. Thus two months after her mother's death, the oldest child of Mary "Polly" (Harper) Sites, now orphaned with a household of younger siblings, married her youngest sister's father. The women in Jacob's life certainly did not fair well. There must be a story behind the "scare" with the mis-carriage of Catharine. One can only wonder if it would now be diagnosed as post-partum depression. Nedra Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
