I am going out on a limb with a theory about Thomas Collett who lived in Pendleton Va. and married Margaret Bartlett, and had sons Thomas and Solomon. So far, other Collett lines have not connected him. He is a mystery. Now for even more mysteries, Thomas was on early census records and land and legal records as Thomas Collick. He was also on a record of being at the Battle of Pt. Pleasant and signed his name as Thomas McCollick. He even has a mountain in Pendleton co. named for him, Colic(k) mountain. Do you think it is possible that he might be related to the McColloch (they sometimes went by M'Colloch) family who originated McColloch's Path? These McCollochs lived for a time in Hardy co. Va., and the name Solomon is common in their family. They were Indian scouts and Indian traders. The Draper Manuscripts say Thomas found his brother George fighting with the Indians at Pt. Pleasant (this George died in the battle). So it could be possible that George was a McColloch belonging to this Indian battling family. We know that Thomas Collett was at the Battle of Pt. Pleasant because of a deposition he made regarding Andrew Skidmore where he states he was there, so he did use the name McCollick. So far I can't find where he fits in with the McColloch family - but they do have Thomas's, Georges, and Solomons in that family. Why they later went by Collett, I don't know. Morton says they were Scotch-Irish which fits with McColloch, Collett is a more English name. This is my pet theory and sure to make a lot of Collett's (including me - my grandmother was a Collett) say no way!! Any comments?? Happy New Year... Becky
