There seems to be a persistent misconception about the early Nicholas Heavener land adjoining Jacob Seybert. It's true that Heavener and Seybert were brothers-in-law and each purchased land in the Green tract of 2643 acres on the same date (see pg. 109 and pg. 112) - which seems to be the basis of the misconception: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/augusta/court/3court33.txt However, the plots were not adjoining. Also no evidence has been found that Henry Lorentz (step-father of Jacob Seybert) owned land adjoining Seybert. It is possible, maybe likely, the Lorentz was working the 88 acre parcel on the South Fork plateau that Seybert had previously been granted before moving to the Dyer settlement. As usual much credit for these plats goes to Steve Zuraff for his expertise in early land grants in this area.
