Author: mallowslk19 Surnames: Bush, Shobe Classification: deed Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.pendleton/1800.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In Bittinger's "Allegheny Passage", Lewis and Eve Bush are stated to have sold a 77a parcel on Mill Creek to Abraham Shobe in 1799. Although it's not given in the text, the land would probably have been in Hardy County not Pendleton Co. Deed details are not given so we don't whether Lewis was living in Hardy Co or on his land in Pendleton Co (or Ohio for that matter) but he was alive in 1799 if this is correct. Additionally, Bittinger postulates that they were members of the German Baptist Brethren because of their being "systematically intermarried over several generations with the alleged Dunker families on the South Branch". In another section, Bittinger gives a short discourse on Elizabeth Bussard Oberholtzer Stingley and the likelihood that she was also an early member of the Brethren Church on the South Branch. Elizabeth was the mother of Catharine Stingley who married Lewis Bush's son Leonard. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
