    3. Just had to stick my nose in this discussion. The place where I find that people absolutely did not lie concerns land deeds and land battles. Find, seek, search for that juicy land battle and you will have information coming out your ears and it will be true. Children are named, illegitimacies, husbands and wives, etc. Never ever overlook the deeds--especially ones marked in indexes as done by land commissioner, or order of court, etc. They are priceless. Also, in the burnt courthouse counties. After the fire families came in the establish ownership of their land and they often have the original deed that they file, or they have sworn depositions as to how they got the land and the children of the original owner and how they fit in the scheme. Found one of those in Webster Co that was the final proof I needed on my Snyder line. Just because the thing burnt up once does not mean it doesn't show up again, just a different date. I mention this as I think this is one of the most overlooked aspects of genealogical research. It takes time, but it is worth it and it often disproves a lot of the old myths that have been handed down. Also, poor Morton, remember he was trying to cover up the approximately 10% illegitimate births among the population along with other scandals. He is a good starting place, just check everything. And everybody lies about ages or misgives them during their lives. Just being human. Merry Christmas Jean
