In fact I have seen it spelled as Buffenbarger, Poffenberger, Poffenbarger, Poffingberger, Poffingbarger, etc. etc etc. The Pickle-Bickle line is also connected to the Puffenbargers. I think most of the families in Pendleton Co., VA (now WV) came from Berks Co., PA in the 1790s.
