This may be a really dumb question, but here goes...I am searching >for my gr gr grandmother's birth and death records. ..... It was suggested to me >that maybe she died in Grant at their hospital and her death record my be >with them. Does Pendleton not have a hospital? >have no idea what is there. How about births? >Thanks! >Kim Fairbanks > Dear Kim, No, there has never been a hospital here in Franklin, and neither in Pendleton County. We barely have doctors. We just got our first stoplight in the county 1 1/2 years ago!!! There is one grocery store and two pharmacies in the county. There are no fast food resturants, at least until the 15th of this month, then "Mean Gene's" will open in a new Texaco gas station/conveinece store/fast food resturant in Franklin. There is no railroad, nor four lane highways. What you will fined here are friendly people, clean air and water, good fishin' and quiet, beautiful mountains and valley areas. You do not have to be afraid to leave your car unlocked while you shop, or walk down the street. Everyone is helpful, if you ask them right. The pace of life here is slower, few people rush around. I moved here from Maryland in 1983, and love it here. Like any community, you have both good and bad, but the good outweighs the bad in my thinking. Good luck in your research. The closest hospitals are Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg, WV; Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA; and the hospital in Elkins, WV. Whom are you researching? Maybe we can help in some way. Koren Fae Rawlings 304-358-3261 Pendleton Co., WVa Historical Preservation Association pendhist@access.mountain.net
