He says "This family perhaps descended from Michael Cowger who located 900 acres on the Shenandoah river in 1753." There is a patent [Virginia Land Grants, http://image.vtls.com//collections/LO.html] for Apr 24, 1753 Patent No 32, 1752-56, p.70 Jacob Coggar 930 acres in Augusta Co on South side of Shanadoah River. No Michael. The Library of Virginia has been a great site for land grants for the counties prior to becoming part of WV. Is there a title for Tucker's book and when was it published? To quote from the Introduction of Pendleton County, WV Past and Present: "Our objective: to publish an accurate and factual account of the history of Pendleton County and its people." The 3 photos at the top of the Homes page are on the family land. George and Hannah built the middle home but it was enlarged later. Chalkleys 3 volumes on Scotch-Irish Settlement can also be found on the Rootsweb site. It isn't limited to that settlement but gives court records, etc. for Augusta Co., the forerunner of Pendleton.
