    3. Hi Sandra, I can't disagree with anything you're saying. But he did a heck of a job with what he had to work with. It is unfortunate some of his guesses were wrong, but if he warns you they are guesses with words like "perhaps", it's hard to complain very much. The alternative is to follow the Jacobus model, and say nothing if you are not sure, leaving the reader to do the research and make the guesses. And even if we might have done things a little different (and I know I would have), the bottom line is that a century later, his works are still the baseline reference on Pendleton County. Sorry, I can't tell you anything about the Harter book beyond what I have already. But she was a long time student of Pendleton County records; I would bet the historical society would know her, even if they've forgotten her at the Hall of Records. If you find any better references, please advise.
