I plan to get the documentation myself this June. Peter Stone m. Mary Smith. They had alot of children. One was Solomon Stone that migrated to Dearborn Co.,IN along with his mother and sister Ann. Ann m. John Simmons in 1812 in Pendleton Co.(W)VA. Ann & Solomon are likely aunt & uncle to your Solomon. They all show on the 1820 Dearborn Co.,IN census. Uncle Solomon Stone died in 1850, in Dearborn, of smallpox. Don't know what happened to Ann, but her husband remarried (same place) in 1827. I can't find Mary Smith Stone, mother of Ann & Solomon, after the 1820 census. If you have more of the family of Peter & Mary Smith Stone please share. 3. Mary Ann, There are two Harman cemeteries listed in the Mouth of Seneca section of the Pendleton County Grave Register; and there are 6 Harman Cemeteries listed in the Germany Valley section of the Grave Register. Maybe if you list a couple of the names of those buried in your particular Harman Cemetery, someone can help determine which one your are referring to. I suggest you contact Jeanette Simkins, she is the consummate Harman researcher. Hope this helps, Matthew Ed & Mary Ann Miller <ladymiller@windstream.net> wrote: Hello, Could someone tell me where the Harman Family Cemetery is located at? 2. 1. What time-frame is she asking about? The records for the era of the fort would be in Augusta County. 2. What records is she searching for? Births and deaths were not recorded before 1853 and then only voluntarily for health dept. statistics. Virtually none were recorded during the Civil War. We know the first marriage book for Pendleton County before 1800 is missing. Many of the records of Rockingham County were burned during the Civil War. Please ask her to be more specific in her questions and someone here undoubtedly can answer her questions. 1. [WVPENDLE] Mills in Pendleton County
    2. My ancestor, Thomas Jefferson North, owned and operated a mill at Upper Tract, Pendleton County. He bought a mill site about 1836 on the west side of the South Branch of the Potomac River and built a mill to grind wheat and corn, also a saw mill and a machine for carding wool. He had been trained as a wheelwright as a young man and made many mill wheels for mills in VA. A raiding party burned all the mill properties during the Civil War. The family moved to Illinois in 1870 and I don't know if a mill was rebuilt at the site by someone else. Thomas's father, George North, had also owned a mill just north of Harper's Ferry in the late 1790's. Thomas's daughter, Martha Henckle North, married Robert Ferguson Anderson who was also a miller in Pendleton County but I don't know the location of his mill or whether it is still in existence..or perhaps he was a miller with Thomas at his location. At any rate, the Pendleton County census of 1840 lists Robert as a miller. In 1855 he mov! ed his family to Peoria County, IL. where he was a farmer and miller. 3. Sandra, I just got on to the tail end of the mill thing but perhaps I have something you could use. Just after WW II, my aunt and uncle Lois and Harold Arbogast built and ran the Rainbow Inn on 220 near the VA line. While they were building it they lived in an old mill just down the road on the Max Harper homeplace. This mill was later moved just across the road and attached to a house there. I think it was a Harper family but can't remember for sure. I used to spend my summers with them and remember the mill very well. Aunt Lois cooked on a wood stove and a well was near the front door. We shared a toilet with the Harpers. She ironed with "sad" irons and baked a lot of graham cracker crust pies because the oven didn't work in the stove. Aunt Lois was a great story teller and I have compiled their stories in a book. I'd be happy to donate one to the historical society library if anyone is interested. I didn't know it at the time but my Hill ancestor's home was at Upper Tract across the river on the level land there. I am the researcher for the documentary with help from those who are the most familiar with the mills. As mentioned earlier, we are particularly interested in the early owners, the builder, and the date built. Any history on the mill and its working, you care to share is appreciated.
