    3. Hello, the Day family, I believe is a little mixed up because there were several Basil, Ezekiel, and Leonard Days. The father of Elizabeth Day Hedrick was Basil Day who was born 1771 and is listed on the 1776 Frederick Co. Md. census. This Basil Day married Susannah Lamb in Pendleton Co. in 1794 at the age of 24. Absalom Day was this Basil's son and he had a son named Basil who moved to Ohio and possibly beyond. The Samuel and Margaret Day named, moved to Ross co. Ohio soon after 1800, I believe. Yes, Christian Hedrick was the son of Frederick Hedrick. His son Enos Hedrick who married Sarah E. Sites is my ancestor. The Day family is really messed up. Many believe that Samuel Day and wife Margaret are from a different Day family - one from Berks Co. Pa. and not related to Leonard and Tabitha Day of Frederick Co. Md and later Hardy Co. Va. So far no one knows for sure. However, Basil and Ezekiel Day, sons of the old Leonard b. 1737 in Prince George Co. Md. lived in Pendleton Co. all their lives and you will find them on the census. By the way, I do have a Hinkle in my past, but the relationship may not be true. I am related to Elizabeth Teter (Phares). She was the daughter of Reuben Teter and Christine Phares. Reuben's mother was Susannah Hinkle b. 1747 wife of Phillip Hinkle b. abt. 1730. However, Edith Teter, my ancestor was born before the marriage took place and she often went by the name Phares. So she could very well be illegitimate. So that nixes my Hinkle line. Someday, I hope the Day line gets straightened out. 1. [WVPENDLE] DNA and the DAY family
    2. Becky Lucas
    3. It might show that Samuel Day and Basil and Ezekiel are all from the same Day family. I guess it won't show that they are brothers. However, those that think Samuel was born in Berks Co. and from a different line totally might either prove it or disprove it. If it is disproved, I would sure like to know what happened to the Samuel Day that was living with Leonard and Tabitha Day in Frederick Co. on that 1776 census. It is odd that Basil and Ezekiel moved to Pendleton (part of Hardy Co. once where Leonard Day moved after the Rev. War) and Samuel Day appeared in Hardy and Pendleton Co, too.I wish this mystery would be solved. Thanks, Becky

    2. And, if these all trace back to a common ancestor the DNA will not answer the question. The Y-DNA can only show that two persons share a common ancestor, but it cannot tell WHO that ancestor was. Of course, this assumes that you have a "true" blood line through all the generations without an "out of paternity" event. Just the other night on TV was a bio on a famous movie actor (which I could now remember who) that did not know until after the deaths of his mother and grandmother that the lady whom was raised with him as his sister was really his mother, and his "mother" was his grandmother. His aunt confirmed this to him after the tabloids found the truth. Bottom line, it always takes at least two to confirm a Y-DNA profile, and the further removed they are, the better. If first cousins match, that only tells that they share the same grandfather but tells nothing of the great grandfather. 2. In a message dated 10/23/2008 7:37:21 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time, philly330@verizon.net writes: I have a book called the Henckel Genealogy which I borrowed from a friend. This book has some 1447 pages and if you have a relative in Pendleton Co., West Virginia they most likely will go back into the Henckel, Henkle, Hinkle lines. If you have the time perhaps you can check the index for me. My gggf Benjamin Wagoner (Waggoner) was born 1825 Pendleton Co. My earliest record of him is the 1850 Highland census where he is shown living in the household of Frederick K Hull. He next appears in the 1860 census of Ritchie Co. WV. I know of no Henckel relatives but perhaps there is some reference to Benjamin in the Henckel book. Specifically I would like to know about Benjamin's parents and siblings, of which I know nothing, not even names. I have 4 books of Pendleton and Highland Counties (2 each) relating to that time. There are some Wagoner references but no mention of Benjamin, so I can't lay claim to those Wagoner families. Thank you for anything you may find. 3. Hello, This is a problem within the Day family. The Basil Day that was Elizabeth's father was born in 1771 in Frederick Co. Md. and died in Randolph Co. Va. The Basil that was son of Absalom is his grandson. Absalom was a son of the old Basil who died in Randolph Co. Va. Now as for Samuel Day, there are different opinions. A Samuel Day is listed on the 1776 Colonial Census for Frederick Co. Maryland in the household of Leonard Day and wife Tabitha (as are Basil, Ezekiel, Susannah, and Tabitha) I might be forgetting one or two. Samuel, on this census was born in 1762. Leonard Day and family moved down to Hardy Co. Va. probably after the Rev. War. (his name appears in Hardy Co. history)Leonard Day was a Pvt. in the war. Samuel, his son is probably the Samuel who is a Pvt. in the war, too. Samuel Day had dealings in Hardy co. and Pendleton Co. Samuel disappears from Pendleton Co. and then a Samuel Day appears in Ross Co. Ohio with wife Margaret Cohagen. A Ross Co. biography shows he came from Pendleton Co. However, his tombstone says he was born in 1757 not 1762. The SAR says this Samuel was a son of the Leonard Day b. 1737 Prince George Co. Md. who later came to Hardy Co. Va. There are those that believe the Samuel in Ross Co.Ohio is not the son of Leonard, and there are those that believe he is. We are waiting for some DNA proof from the descendants.I believe that the three brothers who moved to Ohio and Indiana were Basil, Absalom, and Ambrose. I also thought that perhaps an Ezekiel moved there, too. (he may be a son of the old Ezekiel who was a brother to the old Basil b.1771) It gets confusing when they all name each other the same names. 3. Hi Becky, I have a book called the Henckel Genealogy which I borrowed from a friend. This book has some 1447 pages and if you have a relative in Pendleton Co., West Virginia they most likely will go back into the Henckel, Henkle, Hinkle lines. My husband has a Day ancestor and I have a Hedrick ancestor. I looked in the index for Elizabeth Day or Christian Hedrick but did not find them. However I did find a "Bazzle" Day which according to this book on page 251 lists Bazzle as the son of Absalom Day. Absalom married Leah Teter on Jan 7, 1822 in Pendleton Co., West Virginia. Absalom and his family moved to Macon Co., Missouri in 1838 and settled near College Mound. Three brothers moved to Indiana and Ohio and a fourth "Bazzle" died in Randolph Co., West Virginia. The book believes that Absalom was the son of Samuel and Margaret Day. I cannot find anything in the book on Samuel and Margaret Day. I am not sure that this is your line but it may be worth investigating. I may be going to the Randolph Co. courthouse soon and I will make an effort to look for Bazzle, Elizabeth Day and Christian Hedrick. On Christian Hedrick, I have him born in 1806 in Pendleton Co., West Virginia. Christian is the son of Frederick Hedrick and Mary Elizabeth Fisher. He had siblings Mary who married John Tingler, Elizabeth who married Moses Teter, Susannah who married John T. Miller, Phoebe who married Abel Hinkle, Adam who married Jezebel Hinkle, and Leonard who married Melvin Flynn. My line descends from Adam and Jezebel Hinkle Hedrick. Frederick is the son of Charles Hedrick and Barbara Conrad. I hope that this helps you. 1. [WVPENDLE] Day family of early Pendleton Co.

    3. Are there any Day descendants of Leonard Day and Rachel Harmon still living around Pendleton Co. WVa? If so would any male descendant want to take a DNA test? We are trying to connect the old Leonard and Tabitha Day family (grandparents of Leonard who married Rachel Harmon) with the Samuel Day family of Ross Co. Ohio. This would solve once and for all if Samuel is part of this family or another Day family. I would be willing to pay for part of the the DNA test. Here is an email from Nick Sheedy regarding this... Becky, Let's get serious about finding a direct male descendant of Samuel Day who settled Ross Co., Ohio in the early 1800s. I thought there were a couple of descendants of Samuel doing genealogy... can we persuade one of them to do it? I recently found a living descendant of Willis Day (abt.1766-1826) who was the brother of the early Oregon hunter, John Day (1770-1820), I am researching... A biographical sketch about Samuel Day of Ross Co., OH claimed he was a brother to the Oregon John Day. I'd like to settled that claim. --Nick Sheedy
