Bonnie, I explained in my post that the hyperlinks on the rootsweb message boards only work part of the time - for reasons unknown to me. If they aren't working, you can go to the Pendleton County (WV) message board at www.rootsweb.com<http://www.rootsweb.com/> and follow the steps to get the Pendleton County message boards. The maps are in the thread that is titled Maps of Pendleton County with plots. I have this link book-marked to get me to the message board but I can't guarantee that it will get you there: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.pendleton/mb.ashx<http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.pendleton/mb.ashx> If it does, the Maps of Pendleton County with land plots is currently on the front page. Click on that and then follow the post until you come to each one with an attachment - click on the attachment and you can read the map or download it to save or print. I've just checked and the attachments are there and working. I've uploaded the scans of the maps to the Pendleton County rootsweb site. Each map is attached to post in the thread following its description. For some reason that maybe someone else can explain, the hyperlinks don't always work. If that's the case, you can go to the Pendleton County message boards at Rootsweb. The maps are attached to postings under the heading Maps of Pendleton County with land plots. The first post for each map is a description of what is contained in the map. The second post has a small attachment box below it. You can click on the attachment box in the post which will take you to a much large size map either to read the map or to right click on the map to download or print. The local copy center now considers reducing the map to legal size to be a custom job and wants more than it cost to buy the map in the first place. You can join them in a photo program. I've had quite a few requests for the map scans but, from the questions asked, I'm not sure that folks understand what they include. Also, be advised that the original copies of the maps are quite large - usually over 2' x 3' and they were resized to legal and then scanned and, in some cases, the edges were cropped off during the process. They will probably not be helpful to most unless you already have good basic map reading skills and a pretty good idea of the area covered - particularly the numbered North Fork maps which are pretty much devoid of identifying landmarks. With the exception of the replat of the one Hollingsworth tract by Kile, the maps are incomplete and only show a few plots or a few places of residence. A description of what's contained on each map is on this thread: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.pendleton/1778/mb.ashx<http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.pendleton/1778/mb.ashx> Steve and I used the various maps - with varying degrees of success - to help pinpoint several thousand acres of grants - in several different areas - that were not on the maps but we were working with a deed mapping program, copies of hundreds of grant recordings, succeeding conveyances from those grants out over several owners and many decades in some cases, probate records, tax records, historical sources, and current maps to help us. I have no objection sending the resized scans (that Pam was kind enough to send back to me) to anyone but I don't want anyone to be disappointed. They are not complete representations of any area - except the Hollingsworth tract by Kile which has errors as well as omissions. On the other maps, unless your ancestor was one of the random few whose plot was drawn in, you probably won't find much in the way of help for your research. So, I'll ask that you read the descriptions on the thread above and resend your requests for the maps - by title given in the posting - in which you have interest. I'll email in batches. Sandra Keltner

Lo and behold--what I did find was: scan 0005 scan 0006 scan 0007 scan 8a scan 8b I can take them to work and print them on larger paper. I just need to know what I am missing. I see where the pages show the pattern of taping them together to get the full picture. Unfortunately, I am still trying to find the southern end of Pendleton (south of Trout Rock) along the South Branch and over to the Blackthorn. Thanks so much for your help! Pam
Pam, Those are reductions of several maps - not parts of maps - if I remember correctly. I'd previously had all the maps reduced but after plotting everything into the deed mapper program, I eventually even mailed my resized copies to others and just saved the "originals".
