    3. It seems likely that the Ida you want information on is Ida B. Harper b 14 May 1870 d 18 May 1961. Ida B. Harper was the daughter of Simeon Harper and his wife Phoeba Jane (Harper) Harper per her obit 19 May 1961 Cumberland (Md) Evening Times. Per the Pendleton Co. Grave Register, Ida was buried in a small family cemetery in Harper Gap. Her parents are also buried there. In 1977, the land was owned by the estate of Guy Hedrick. Some census data that may be of help - but no explanation as to why Hattie's name is Harper on the 1920 census and Harvey on the 1930 census (or, even, whether there may have been two Hatties of a similar age) and I have no further data on the relationships between Hattie and the Harpers - maybe a Harper or Hedrick researcher can help. Hattie E Harvey, age 18, in 1930 was living with Ida Harper (age 59) Hattie Harper, age 7, in 1920 was living in Pleasant Harper's household along with his sister Ida Harper - relation indicated is daughter of the head of household (that would be Pleasant Harper) ----- Original Message ----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com<mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 31, 2009 10:36 AM Subject: [WVPENDLE] any help is greatly appreciated This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. We recently visited his home place. I'm not sure exactly what the area is called, but just this past weekend, my father returned there for the first time in over 20 years to take his children to the land where he grew up. I know that we took a road across from the 4U Motel, followed it past a small white church at the base of a rock outcropping, and parked at a gate where we continued on foot through a meadow with a dilapitated barn, on an overgrown path to a site at the bottom of some foothills. The home was no longer standing, but my dad vividly remembers details of its layout. Here's where I need help. My grandmother Hattie was adopted by a woman I believe was named Ida. Harvey is my grandmother's maiden name, but that is absolutely all I know of her family. Oh, and I believe she may have had several brothers and sisters. We do not know who they are or why the children were given up for adoption. My father also knows very little of his paternal heritage, as his father died young and was not active in my dad's upbringing. I believe his surname was Hedrick. He may have been named Harmie (or this could be my dad's grandfather's name). I know that my dad is also somehow related to the Harmons/Harmans of the Seneca Rocks area. My dad is very tight-lipped about his family history, but this may be because he knows very little of it. Do any of these names or circumstances sound familiar? Can anyone help me to piece together my family's past. My brothers and I are very curious about our roots and believe this kind of knowledge would do my dad a world of go! od. My grandfather Jasper L. Teter was born before she married James W. Barkley or George Barclay, whichever was her spouse. I have found both listed as her spouse. Jasper was actually raised by my great grandfather Balaam Teter a nephew of Leah Teter's father, Solomon Teter. I understand they had children and two of the boys names were George and Cecil. At one time I corresponded with a lady from Pennsylvania about the family, but she is now dead. I have a picture somewhere of Leah and James W. Barclay that is a photo of a photograph. 1. Re: [WVPENDLE] Ulrich Conrad
    2. Sandra Keltner
    3. Pam, There are three Conrad aka Kunrath men listed together on the ship Isaac in 1749 and they seem to profile well to the will you cite: http://www.progenealogists.com/palproject/pa/1749isaac.htm<http://www.progenealogists.com/palproject/pa/1749isaac.htm> The 'sick' Hans Conrad made neither a mark nor signed his name so the spelling was by a clerk who signed for him. Strassburger and Hinke, Pennsylvania German Pioneers, is a better resource but the link above is more accessible. The Ully and Hans (not sick) are usually cited as those in the Pendleton area ca 1753 when Ulrich had two parcels surveyed on Switcher's Run (now Deer Run). I personally have made no attempt to prove/disprove the connection between the ship's list and the Ulrich and Hance/John Conrad in Pendleton. However, the probate, in then Augusta Co., of Hance aka John Conrad proves his relationship to Ulrich. IF Ulrich and Hans in the Pendleton area were the same as the sons mentioned in the will you cite, Bartlome Churet would be disproven as the father and another Hans ( aka Johannes or John) would be proven as the father. The same Ulrich (later known as Ulrich Sr) who had two parcels surveyed in 1753 was married to Margaret as proven by a sale of one of those parcels in 1763: Page 263.--28th June, 1763. Walreck Conrad, planter, and Margaret (signed in German) to Samuel Morral, Jr., of Amherst Co., planter, £40, 240 acres on the Mountain between South Fork and South Branch of Potomac, on Switcher's branch, now in possession of said Samuel Morrall. He, Ulrich Sr, is the same who placed an ad in the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1765 for the return of his daughter Barbara who had been released by Bouquet's expedition. In the ad, Ulrich indicates that his wife and five children were taken captive by Indians about seven years previously. His wife and eldest son had been returned, two children had died in captivity, his daughter Barbara had been released the previous fall but not returned to him in Virginia, and another child was still among the Indians. Barbara is the only child named. Elizabeth may or may not have been the child still in captivity. Other evidence favors a son still missing. It would be possible - but pushing the biological time clock - for Margaret, as a first wife, to have had another child when she was returned to Virginia. However, the wording of the ad does not definitively exclude the possibility of additional children not taken by Indians. The data in the land and probate records combined seem to suggest that Elizabeth Sumwalt was the daughter of the pioneer Ulrich (Sr per his will) but I am not a Conrad researcher . Hopefully someone else has worked the land records to prove that the Ulrich whose will was probated in 1802 was the same who had the surveys done in 1753.
