Thank you Karen for letting us know. The messages went through because the sender address is a subscriber of the list. Email addresses are "harvested" and sold in mailing lists just like telephone lists. And, it is very easy to configure your email program for the "from" line to say whatever you would like it to say. I have a different "from" line with my school account to use even though the messages are actually sent from my same program through comcast. I knew that others have used my email address when I received bounce notifications of messages that I never sent. Just consider this the same as creating return address labels for someone else and using them to send postal junk mail. Nedra List admin
Our e-mail address is being used to send out e-mail, even addressing it to us. Another one came today. This one has the subject line lhpope and this topic. I've contacted AOL in the past and opened the e-mail without touching anything on the page. It was from a company who gave instructions to click different links on the page. I would suggest that people delete it or put it into Spam if they see this topic or arenlaine@yahoo.come-mail address. Sandra In a message dated 3/1/2010 10:46:13 A.M. Previous to this being sent to the Hardy Co. website as well, I received 2 e-mails from _arenlaine@yahoo.com_ (mailto:arenlaine@yahoo.com) and spammed them. She, evidently, found a way to circumvent spam. Sandra Pope, FSHEA Chairman/Project Manager In a message dated 3/1/2010 10:46:13 A.M. It is really both. We are a group, but because we are all over the US we keep in touch mainly by e-mail. We try to get together a few times a year, the Maple Festival in Highland and Treasure Mtn Festival in Pendleton and a reunion picnic in Rockingham. If you are interested, I add your name to the mailing list, send out an e-mail introducing you and what families you are interested in and see if anybody else in the group connects with you. Also, most members send me their birthdays and I send out an e-mail at that time, which reminds people yearly what families you are researching and maybe you can get a new lead then. You can let me know at unicornlosh@verizon.net if you want to join. The Pendleton Pals will be meeting during the Highland County Maple Festival on Saturday, March 20 from 10:00-2:00 in the upstairs of the Highland County Museum in McDowell, VA. The Pendleton Pals are a group of amateur genealogists who research their Sugar Grove families of Pendleton County and Highland county families. The Pals live in many different states and communicate both online as well as in person. During the past several years they have become great friends and have made many friendships with residents of both counties and look for every opportunity to get together for fun and fellowship. They each have an extensive collection of old photos from the area along with family histories, which they are continually updating and love to share with others. If you have an interest in your family genealogy, please come out and share with them the information you have. The Pendleton Pals always welcomes new members who have the desire and dedication to help preserve their Pendleton or Highland Co. heritage for others to enjoy for generations to come! This year, the musuem will feature an exhibit titled "Highland's First Families." This exhibit will depict early settlers to the area who arrived before 1760 and trace as many of their descendents as they can. You can check it out while you're there!

Although it's not given in the text, the land would probably have been in Hardy County not Pendleton Co. Deed details are not given so we don't whether Lewis was living in Hardy Co or on his land in Pendleton Co (or Ohio for that matter) but he was alive in 1799 if this is correct. Additionally, Bittinger postulates that they were members of the German Baptist Brethren because of their being "systematically intermarried over several generations with the alleged Dunker families on the South Branch". In another section, Bittinger gives a short discourse on Elizabeth Bussard Oberholtzer Stingley and the likelihood that she was also an early member of the Brethren Church on the South Branch. Elizabeth was the mother of Catharine Stingley who married Lewis Bush's son Leonard. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. That's Deer Run P.O. Ulrich's 240a was southeast of there and the 50a was northwest of the marker. Two properties were between them - John Hainer's 40a and Adam Lough's 138a. Early neighbors Jacob Seybert (88a) and Michael Mallow (470a) were north of Ulrich's 240a Click on the Terrain button at the top of the map then click on the slide to the left to enlarge ( ). You'll see a gap in the mountains where the stream called Deer Run passes through. From the old land descriptions, it seems all of the 50a lay just east and southeast of the gap. Perhaps, someone familiar with the area can give the location of an old corner of the property. I don't have a modern marker and replotting old grants on new maps leaves a lot to be desired.
