Terri, I don't know whether this might be a lead. Several years ago, I had some correspondence with a Bob Jordan somewhere in New York, who was actively searching for his ancestors. I know some of his kin were in Webster Co. at one time. He answered a query of mine about my 2nd great grandmothers' whereabout after I lost her in Pendleton Co. in the 1830's. She had remarried a widower who was Bob Jordan's ancestor. If you like I'll see if I can find the old correspondence and send you his name and address. Terri, Pardon me for butting in. Saw your posting. Executors: son William, Edward Morton. Witnesses: John Devericks, James Simms, Jr., Silas Simms. There is also a will dated 9 Nov 1846 for a John Smith. He mentions wife jane. Also states she to have possession of property until youngest child is of age. If she remarries executor to rent farm until all children are of age. However names of children are not given. Executor: Samuel Jones, Jr. Witnesses:Joseph Smith, Eli Crummet Hope this of some help..............Betteann Meyers in Las Vegas researching BORROR and JUDY surnames----Original Message----- From: Tlshel@aol.com <Tlshel@aol.com> To: WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com <WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, October 20, 1999 2:20 PM Subject: Jane Jordan Smith >Koren - I was so happy to see your post on the Pendleton Co. list that I >wanted to write and say thank you for the information. Koren - I was so happy to see your post on the Pendleton Co. list that I wanted to write and say thank you for the information. I would also be interested in knowing if you are aware of anyone researching the Jordan/Smith lines. I have been trying for several years to try to connect Jane JORDAN with a family in Pendleton Co.; possibly as a child of Andrew Jordan, Jr. who was later in Braxton and Webster counties. Briefly, what I know of her is that she was born 27 March 1820 in Pendleton Co., VA; married to John SMITH, Jr. 4 Dec. 1834 in Pendleton Co. He died about 1847. They had several children, but no names are listed in his will. I know there was a daughter: Tabitha (or Talitha) b. Aug 1837; m. Joseph HITT, 1855 in Lewis Co., WV; there may also have been a daughter, Sarah Jordan Smith, b. 1835; m. 1857 E. Simmons; and possibly another daughter, Ann E (O'Brian), b. 1836; m. 1864 to John White. Jane Jordan Smith then married William A. Buchanan, place and date unknown, but they are on the 1860 Rockbridge Co. VA census. In 1867 Jane married Nathan Schoonover in Gilmer Co., WV By 1880, the widow, Jane Schoonover is in Macon Co., IL with her widowed daughter, Tabitha Hitt. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Terri

Hi, Pardon my "butting in". I, too, am interested in the Upper Tract, particularly at North Fork. My ancestor, Sam Day owned land at Clay Lick and sold it to John Dolly when he migrated to Ohio in 1805. Any information on the location of this region, cemeteries nearby that may contain Days, or other pertinent info would be appreciated. do people not list something of importance in the subject line so other readers can have an idea what their message consists of. It is very discouraging to receive something from the list and have to read through all the different "Parts" to determine if there may be a family connection. Most other list show all the SUBJECTS in the FIRST PART so a reader if able to determine if it is worth the time to continue. Most of the time when I receive my Pendleton County list I just DELETE. I do not have time to read all that FORWARDED time and time again stuff. Most of the time that is all the Pendleton County list contains in the subject is FORWARD this or FORWARD that...even the FORWARD has no indication of what the message might contain.

Hi all. I am new to this list and wanted to see if anyone has information on my family. I am researching the family(ies) of Elmer Landis/Landes and Hady A. Helmick. They were married April 26, 1902 somewhere in Pendleton County. The marriage record has no other info. My gr grandmother, Nellie Rae Landis was born to Elmer and Hady, October 11, 1911. Again, the only information on the birth register is Pendleton County. I have been told that Hady was born September 8, 1884 in Upper Tract. They had other children besides Nellie; Lee (daughter), Edna, Mabel, Bertha and one son, Amby. Can anyone tell me anything more about this family? I would love to be able to find any information that I can. If you can point me in the right direction, I will go from there! Thanks for your time and assistance! Kim Fairbanks kfairbnks@aol.com
