    3. I recently received my first "digital microfilm" census from Heritage Quest. These are actual census images on CD (meaning you can zoom in on hard to read spots, print from your computer, etc.). For me they are an incredible find -- I live right across the river from the National Archives in DC but I can never find time to go there, but now I can do census research at 2am! They are $19.95 per CD (which I believe corresponds to the NARA microfilm rolls) or $14.95 if you pay a Heritage Quest "membership fee". http://www.heritagequest.com/genealogy/CD-ROM/ They don't have 1920 yet but it is amazing to me how much they do have. I'm sure the remaining years are in process. -- Julia -- Gene Phares wrote: > > Personally, I found it helpful to simply purchase the census on microfilm. 1. Re: Census Records
    2. Your state has a National Archive that contains copies of all Census records for the US. If you call your local library and/or LDS Family History Center they might know where they are. You can purchase some of the indexes of the census records at the Archives also. Some libraries ( that have film viewers) allow you to order 2 rolls of film at time through the Public Library system, from the National Archives, to be viewed right there in the library. But in order to know which rolls you need to see, you need the index. Some libraries may have copies of the indexes so you can look up your rolls right there, then order them. The beauty of going to the National Archive is that they also have a special photocopy machine that makes a copy of the actual census page (off the film) for your records. Your state Archive is not necessarily in the state capital, so call around, good luck. If you are in CA I can tell you more.~Stacy

    1. Re: Census Records
    2. Stephanie, try the Latter Day Saints Family History Center. You can order the films from them. There may be someone on this list who can do a lookup for you. I don't know if the 1920 is in book form yet. Wes Cochran sells lots of the various census books for WV. Kim

    1. Jacob Full - born abt. 1800
    2. I am searching for any information on the Jacob Full Family. My gr gr gr gr grandfather was Jacob Full, born abt. 1800. He was the son of George Full, Sr. and Catherine Steels. They lived in Pendleton County in the late 1700's through the mid-1800's. I have found Jacob in the marriages of Pendleton 1788-1853 twice. He is listed as marrying Christena SMITH in November of 1836 and Mary Ann HELMICK in January of 1846. I have not found a death record for Christena Smith FULL or anything else other than her name on the death record of their son William FULL. I am positive that this is the same Jacob FULL, I just need someone to confirm it for me. Also, is there any other book out there with deaths from the early 1800s? I did not find any Jacob or either of his wives listed in the Grave Registers. Does anyone know if this family stayed in Pendleton or where they may have gone? I have read in another Pendleton publication that no one seems to know what happened to them. I feel like I am a story on Unsolved Mysteries. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! 1. Re: [OHMORGAN-L] SUBJECT LINE ABUSE
    2. I am sending this to all the lists I originally sent to as have had so many queries as to what would be the correct way. I never started these ROLL CALLS, but have gained things from them. Thought the following might be more explanatory. My way serves the same purpose as a ROLL CALL, but I think fits in with the purpose of the mail lists which do not allow ROLL CALL. I sure didn't envision all these questions I have been receiving from new members wondering what is correct. I am not an expert, but am giving hints to help all of us. You can still participate in a ROLL CALL. The idea was for the members to get the names they are researching out on the Internet again and they called it a ROLL CALL. I think you should put the surname of the person you are researching in the subject line with perhaps even an approximate date. Example BROWN early 1800s. Then in the letter you could be more specific if you choose. I would also send an e-mail for each name. This way each name you are searching gets undivided attention. I don't think that a ROLL CALL with just a list of names serves much purpose as we never know what years are involved or anything else. The ones I benefited from were the ones who had a list of surnames in the subject line and then a few more details in the body of the message. Roil Call tells us nothing and when you are rushed or as busy as many of us are, we tend to delete and never look and you are cheating yourselves as well as others because the answer might be there, but no one opens it to find out. There is room to do 2 or 4 names in the subject line. Perhaps Brown, Jones, Smith 1800s. This tells everyone a lot. As has been pointed out to me, this is also a problem for the Archives. Can you imagine going into the Archives and checking to see if in the past several years someone was searching your name so you can contact them, and there you find 1000 queries titled ROLL CALL.? Would you open those or skip them? Just think you might miss that connection you have been searching for for years. Hope this clarifies my thoughts and does serve everyone's purpose. Jerilyn

    1. OATES/PUFFFENBARGER
    2. Karen - I have posted this both to the West Virginia page and the Puffenbarger page with no results. My husband's great grandmother was Jennie Oats born March 1875 in Lewis Co., West Virginia. She died in Hall Co., Nebraska in 1931. The dilemma is that in 1880 she is listed as adopted with Samuel and Mary Ann McCluster family in Lewis Co., W. Virginia under the name of S. E. Puffenbarger, age 6. She and her parents all being born in West Virginia. They are living in the Freeman's Creek area. When she got married she listed her name as Jennie Oats and her parents were Benjamin Oates and Elizabeth M. Puffenbarger. She came to Kansas with the McCluster family. They had a Rhimer boy adopted in 1880 and in 1900 they had a new adopted boy by the name of Guy Moffet. My husband's grandmother knew nothing of her mother's background other than who raised her and her being adopted. I have tried Puffenbarger and Oates to try and find a marriage, but getting absolutely no where. It makes me wonder if she was illegitimate as went by two different last names. Any help would be appreciated. Jerilyn

Ceremony performed by Otho Wade, Can anyone give me a list of children of this couple?? Also, a James WILSON married Rachel BLIZARD in Pendleton County on June 15, 1819. Ceremony performed by F. Lair. Is this the SAME James WILSON with two different wives. Does anyone have a list of the children of this couple. Any help greatly appreciated. Will answer all responses. I also have the following information: the 1850 Pendleton Census record shows: Unit 103-103 James WILSON,a ge 56, Farmer (This is the only James WILSON in the Census) Martha R., age 21 James K., age 16 Rachael B., age 14 Noah R., age 13 George B., age 4 (I don't want to speculate, but I am most sure that Martha R. is a daughter and not a spouse, because of age, and also because very close to their home is a listing for: Unit 85-85 Charles FOWLER, age 25, Farmer Sarah, age 25 Wilson, age 1 (I KNOW this family to be my Sarah D. (WILSON) FOWLER and her husband Charles Beckwith FOWLER. I am almost sure also that this James WILSON in unit # 103 is a son of James WILSON and Elizabeth (HEMPINSTALL) WILSON who was born either Sept. or Nov. 7, 1794, and I know also that this particular James WILSON married Sarah SMALLRIDGE on March 8, 1823. So the age is correct for the 1850 Census. What I desperately need is someone who can give me a list of he children of this James and Sarah (SMALLRIDGE) WILSON. The 1860 Pendleton Census shows that James has taken a second wife by the name of "Amelia" shown as age 56. They are in Unit # 52-52 and James is shown as being 67. son Noah is still in the house but his initial has changed from "R." to "E." and living next door in unit # 53 is another son "Kennison" WILSON--obviously the James K. of the 1850 record, now with wife Irene S. and two children William C. and Mary M. 1870 Shows James W. WILSON age 77 and wife Amelia age 65 with the son James K. still living next door with his wife Irene and 5 children. ANY HELP you can give me on this WILSON/SMALLRIDGE, James WILSON/Amelia ?, or James Kennison WILSON/Irene S. ? would be more than greatly appreciated. Carlisle Bowling Zarvon@aol.com P. O.
