    3. These families named children after the Presidents for which they voted and they named them for Generals in the Civil War who fought in the WV theater. If they are naming a child for James Buchanan, they must have voted for him, or at least favored his politics. Jeff Carr of TX I have collected the LAMBERTs and others who are connected as children, grandchildren, gg(etc) to Henry and Sara PETERSON-CARR of Augusta/ Hampshire/Hardy Co. Surnames include ARMENTROUT, BODKIN, BONNER, BOGGS, CARR/KERR, DAVIS, HAEGLER, HARMAN, HARPER, HEDRICK, HEVENER, HINKLE, HUFFMAN, JUDY, LAMBERT, MALLOW, MILLER, MOUSE, NELSON, SIMMONS, SKIDMORE, SMITH, SNYDER, TRACE, WOLFORD, Many of these names moved on to Ohio and West. Others stayed in WV. 3. Dear Adeline: The book "Hevener - Hefner - Hevener of the VIRGINIAS Frederick Volume II shows Leanna Hevener on page 79. The book's title page says: Compiled and distributed by: Dennis N. Hevener 311 Mountain Run Road Churchville, VA 24421 Copyright pending 1998 (Dan's note: Dennis Hevener has died since publication of the book. The book will have been copyrighted by virtue of his creation of it. His son, Scott Hevener, 201 Walkers Cove Drive, Colonial Heights, VA, may have copies of it and the companion "Jacob Hevener" book. They have been selling for $35 each). The pertinent text follows: "(682) Christian Hevener, son of Frederick Hefner Jr. and Elizabeth Ruleman was born 1801 near Brandywine, Pendleton Co., W.Va. and married 2 Mar 1819 in near Brandywine, Pendleton Co., W.Va., (694) Mary Propst who was born about 1800 in near Brandywine, Pendleton Co. W.Va. Christian died before 1860 in Sugar Grove, Pendleton Co., W.Va. Mary died after 1880 in Sugar Grove, Pendleton Co., W.Va. "The grand-parents of Christian, Christian Weiston and Magdeline (?) made specific provision in their wills for the nine children of their marriage or for the families of those who had pre-deceased. Christian took of the wills in lieu of his deceased mother. "Mary was a daughter of Leonard Jr. and Elizabeth (Ward) Propst. "The 1880 census Pendleton County shows Mary as age 80 and living with her son William L. and his family." The book goes on to list 10 children: Zebulon Hefner, Elizabeth Hevener, Christena Hevener, John H. Hefner, Leanna Hevener, Frederick H. Hefner, Hester Ann Hefner, Samuel S. Hefner, Mary F. Hefner and William L. Hevener (spelled as in the book). On Page 105, it says: "Leanna Hevener, daughter of Christian Hevener and Mary Propst, was born 2 Feb 1831 in Sugar Grove, Pendleton County, W.Va. and married spouse unknown. Leanna died 29 Jul 1905 in Pendleton Co., W.Va. and was buried in the Bodkin Cemetery, Pendleton Co, W.Va. (Route 8). Spelling of given name on headstone is Leanna. However, some early sources, including the Pendleton Coutny marriage records used a Leannah spelling. Children: 959+ Mahala Hevener b.c. 1851 d. 5 Apr 1854. "She (Leanna, my interpretation) also married Dec. 28 Dec. 1854 in South Branch, Pendleton Co., W.Va. (960) Josiah Simmons who was born 10 Jul 1831 in Pendleton Co., W.Va. 3. My great grandfather, James Buchanan Lambert, was, according to my records, born in 1857 in Pendleton County. This was in his obituary, probably prepared by his daughter in law, Maggie Lou Lambert, my grandmother. It could have been wrong. I remember him well. He fell off a roof of his two-story log home at what he said was the age of 95 and died shortly afterward in a hospital in Ronceverte, WV. I have been curious who his parents were, and have had some pointers that I have yet to research. dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376 ---------- >From: Jeff L Carr <ffejlny@juno.com> >To: WVPENDLE-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: James B. 2. HAMRICK,DANIEL
    3. I will post the information I have on the late Annie Ruckman Hogan's ancestry - at least three generations of it. Here is an ancestor table four four generations relating to Annie Ruckman Hogan. This wonderful woman, who died a couple years ago, was the source of nearly all this information. She and her husband Parker both were related to me; he through the Hamricks. (Unfortunately I do not have the date of her death at hand). Again, if you want to find a father, take the sons number and multiply by two. For the mother, take a persons number, multiply by two and add one. 1 Annie Elizabeth Ruckman. Born on 14 Oct 1909. On 22 Aug 1933 when Annie Elizabeth was 23, she married Parker Hogan, in Marlinton. 2 Gould Ruckman. Born on 27 May 1875 in Mingo, Randolph Co., WV. Gould died in Randolph Co., WV on 6 Jun 1956; he was 81. Buried in Ruckman Cemetery, Mingo, Randolph Co., WV. Occupation: Farmer. On 22 Aug 1933 when Gould was 58, he married Sarah Emma Wymer. 3 Sarah Emma Wymer. Born on 31 Jan 1874. Sarah Emma died on 22 Mar 1958; she was 84. 4 Samuel D. Ruckman. Born abt 1825 in Knapps Creek, Pocahontas Co.,. Samuel D. died in Mingo, Randolph Co, VA (Now WV) on 31 Oct 1877; he was 52. Buried in Ruckman Cemetery, Mingo, Randolph Co. Occupation: Gold Miner And Farmer. On 12 Sep 1872 when Samuel D. was 47, he married Mary Elizabeth Hall, in Pocahontas Co., WV. 5 Mary Elizabeth Hall. Born in Apr 1841 in Mint Springs, Augusta Co, VA. Mary Elizabeth died in Mingo, Randolph Co., WV on 2 May 1916; she was 75. Buried in Ruckman Cemetery, Mingo, Randolph Co., WV. Religion: Presbyterian. 6 William Perry Wymer. William Perry married Margaret Riggleman. 7 Margaret Riggleman. 8 William Ruckman. William married Margaret Daugherty. 9 Margaret Daugherty. 10 James Hall. James married Margaret Gibson. 11 Margaret Gibson. 14 William Riggleman. Born in 1829 in Monterville, Randolph Co., WV. 1. Re: [VAHIGHLA] James B. Lambert and Phoebe Zickafoose
    2. HAMRICK,DANIEL
    3. Thanks for your question. I guess I wasn't clear. The individuals in an ancestor table (ahnentafel chart) are numbered. Let's say you are number one. Then your father will be number two. And your grandfather will be number four. You take a son and multiply his number by two to find his father. Or you can take a father and divide by two to get a son. Secondly, to find a mother, you multiply by two and add one. Thus, your mother would be number three. Your grandmother would be number five. This also places a couple in sequence. Thus, two and three are a couple, as are eight and nine. I hope this is clear. I was taken aback at first. But once you get it in your head, it seems to me the simplest way to keep track without winding around several generations and coming up in the South Pacific with an unknown relation with Mongolian ancestry. dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376 ---------- >From: CDavis9626@aol.com >To: VAHIGHLA-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [VAHIGHLA] James B. 3. I have a Catherine "Polly" Swadley, b 1785, who married Adam Hevener, son of John Jacob Hevener and Mary Baldwin Mallow. She was born, of all places, at Blue Grass, which apparently heretofore was Crab Bottom. No wonder I had heard of it before. My information came from other descendants, the late Annie Ruckman Hogan of Monterville, WV, who died in the 1990s, and from Anna Dodrill of Monterville, WV. The information exchange you mentioned may have involved a friend rather than my wife. The friend is Autumn Kruer of Bedford, KY, whom I will copy with this message. I don't have Catherine's parents. And I'm not sure about the information. I have her dying at age 30. What do you have? Do you need more on the Heveners? I also appreciate the earlier information from Karen Rawlings that Crab Bottom, now Blue Grass, was in Pendleton prior to being in Highland. That explains things. The original name does seem a little too down to earth for the Virginia aristocracy. dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376 ---------- >From: rcflesher@juno.com >To: dhamrick@neo.rr.com >Subject: Re: [VAHIGHLA] Fw: Crab Bottom >Date: Sat, Jan 8, 2000, 8:15 AM > >Hi Dan, >What is your lineage? >So I can know what to be looking for as I search Pendleton county for my >ancestors. >You listed or gave me once your wifes lineage back to some Swadleys and >Heveners. >It helps to know what to look for. >Is your wifes Mark and Benjamin Swadley (father and son) the same Mark >that m. 3. Hi, In the Land Patents, Pendleton County (Sims Index), one connected family member, William Michael listed 40 acres in Crab Apple Bottom, Pendleton Co. in 1798. Some Waggoners held land in Crab Apple Bottom, too. 3. My Jacob Hevener book got stolen at the annual family reunion. But I have ordered another one. There is material on Ft. Seybert in it. Dennis Hevener died within the last year. His son, Scott, lives at 201 Walkers Cove Drive, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. He said he can fill orders for books at $35 a copy. There are two volumes on the Heveners by Dennis Hevener. One is called "Heavner - Hefner - Hevener of the Virginias Vol. I Jacob. Its counterpart is Vol II, Frederick. They feature descendants of these two patriarchs respectively. I will be happy to do a look up if and when the book arrives. It was just reordered this week. dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376 ---------- >From: Bvmiller@aol.com >To: dhamrick@neo.rr.com >Subject: Heavner Book >Date: Thu, Jan 6, 2000, 8:06 PM > >Don: I have been trying to locate the Heavner book by inquiring on this >list, the Augusta County, list the Staunton, VA Public Library, etc., etc., >and no one seems to have heard of it. 1. Regarding former post on original records
    2. I am going to get in trouble again. On the Lappin Tappin situation, I also would have read it Tappin if I had not known the name so no blame on the reader for this one. Sometimes the transcribers are in too big a hurry, but this was one case where only a person knowing exactly what to look for would have found it. Jerilyn

    1. Check out original files
    2. By all means after you have found your information in a printout of some sort, order in the film or whatever to see the original. I thought an ancestor's last name was Later. Thought what a strange German name. Went to read the original and it was LAHR. This week I found a deed from a Martha to Jacob (this in the index to the will books, hand written, not printed. Turned out it was Matthias to Jacob. A census transcription by someone in Fayette Co., who is doing a wonderful job, but didn't recognize my name of Lappin, filed us our Tappin. This person is acquainted with the area very much, but this family didn't stay much after 1800 and so no one would consider looking for this name. So you can see how important it is to see the originals. If I hadn't known the Lappin first names and about what area, I would have thought they weren't listed. Keep searching and have fun while doing it. Jerilyn
