    1. Re: [WVPENDLE] Looking for Layton Rexroad
    2. Hi Vivian: I can tell you that Lawton Rexroad of Brandywine is dead. He has a daughter md to a Hartman, but i can't remember what their given names are. Many years ago we went there looking for where Peter Hoover's grave was, but we could not find it by using Lawton's . We met his daughter a few years ago and said she could show us where it is supposed to be, b ut we have not found time or did not get around to checking with her. If no one has answered you with what the daughter's name is, let me know and I will round up someone who does know. Good luck, Ruby, again

    3. Does anyone have personal information on Mary Elizabeth Fisher b. 1776, daugher of George Fisher, Jr. & Elizabeth Conrad? She married her cousin Fredrick Hedrick, son of Charles Hedrick and Barbara Conrad, abt. 1791 in Pendleton Co. Could her grandmother Fisher have been Indian? One source mentions she is part Seneca Indian...I have seen an HCPD source that says Chief Bull of the Delawares had daughters that married into the "Nelson, family of Pendleton Co. and the Crites, Frederick, Yeager, Sloan, Lambert, Fisher, Kennedy and other famileis of the Monongahela Valley and elsewhere in WVa."

    1. [WVPENDLE] If you are interested....Replies to my CROSSMUG question
    2. The center of my request was the following: "An undated partial marriage bond in the 1788 envelope of Pendleton Co misappropriated papers in Morgantown. John Crossmug and Peter Hoover were bonding for an unknown woman's marriage (the ink has faded completely from the body of the instrument). " I posted the query to Pendleton County and to other counties that people immigrated from in the 1700's to Pendleton County, VA now WV. I want to thank everyone who responded and so far have had over 70 responses.....name still in "limbo"...but you have given me more roads to travel...Ya gotta love all of those clerks, etc who practiced "phonics before it's time". .Most responders suggested either GROSSMAN or CROSSMAN.....some sent me actual names and dates of people for me to do further in-depth research on for a connection....but then I was given other possibilities to look at: 1. guess would be that the Crous/Kraus/etc portion would follow along.  And that the 'mug' portion was perhaps mach or mugh, or muth, or macher. 2. Krausmeir? 3. If it is german wouldn't it be Krutz______something or other? 4. Grassmage,Grossmoge, Grossmog, Krassmage, Krossmoge, Krossmog Crassmage, Crossmoge, Crossmog 5. Gressam,Grassam,Grassmuck 6. Kruezbecker.   Kruez=Cross; Becker=Mug. Will let you know if I find the real John CROSSMUG. Thanks bunches. Vivian

Mom is digging out boxes of old photos and yellowed Echoes.....it may be an interesting night! Sherri Brake-Recco ================================================================== The Re-ECHO By Wendel Ware. 606 Hawaii Street~ El Segundo, Ca Friday, November 29,1907 CURRENCE GREGORY DEAD The many friends of this good man were shocked last Saturday evening to learn that he was dead. About five o'clock as he was returning to the home of his son. I.N. Gregory, in North Webster Springs, with whom he was making his home, after a trip over into the town, he was seen 'to halt suddenly, then sink to the ground. Assistance reached him immediately, and he was carried to the house, where he breathed his last within a few minutes, the cause being given by physicians as heart failure. While it had been noticeable for some months that he was growing feeble, he was yet a wonderfully well preserved man and his death came as a great surprise. Monday morning at 11:00 o'clock the remains were laid to rest beside those of his beloved wife in the burying ground near the old home about five miles up Elk River, in the presence of an immense gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends. The service was conducted by the Reverend C.J. Price. Currence Gregory was born February 20, 1831, and was therefore aged seventy-six years, nine months and three days. He was a son of Adam Gregory, and is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mattie Baughman, now about eighty years of age, and two half-brothers, Harmon and William H. Gregory. In 1852 he was married to Harriett Payne, and to this union were born thirteen sons and one daughter: Hinkle, John, David, Jesse, Benjamin, George, William, Peter, Isaac, Theodore, Alfred, Shepherd, (deceased), Isaiah and Nancy, now Mrs. David B. Cogar. In this large family, among whom are left are some of our most esteemed citizens, he has left a monument which will do more than stately marble to cause him to be remembered by the present and known to coming generations. He was born on Elk River near Webster Springs and spent his entire life near the place of his birth, and with him died much of the early history of the section. Known far and near as a just and upright citizen, honorable in all his dealings, he was held in the highest esteem and his fri ends numbered the entire population. ‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹ Last Modified: 12 Feb 2003 Created: 12 Feb 2003 ‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹ Please report corrections or additions to...
