    1. [WVPENDLE] Trip
    2. Bill Rexroad
    3. My recent trip to Pendleton and Highland Counties was much fun and a great success genealogically. One of the best things about the trip was meeting in person so many of you whom I had known only via the internet. I truly enjoyed the time I had with each and every one of you and your spouses. Thank you all for that time and for the knowledge and information you shared with me. Some other highlights of the trip: - Located and photographed the land where my 3g- and 4g-grandparents lived. - Found court records (in Augusta County) that placed Johannes Zacharias Rexroth the Pioneer in Virginia three years earlier than previously published. He was definitely there in 1764 and probably in 1763. - Several very knowledgeable Pendleton County people and I located the probable site of the home of Zach the Pioneer. I later located his nearby blacksmith shop with the use of a metal detector. I will write this up in a few weeks and share it with anybody who is interested. There is other information about the trip that I will relate in days to come. Right now I have a lot of catching up to do after having been gone for 2 1/2 weeks. Bill Rexroad Hutchinson, Kansas

    1. [WVPENDLE] Reunion Speaker: Mary Rodd Furbee
    2. Dan Hamrick
    3. NEWS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mary Rodd Furbee of Morgantown, WV, author of a series of books on the ³outrageous women² of American history will be the speaker at the annual Pioneer Family Reunion. The speech is scheduled Sunday Aug. 31, 2003 at the families' park on the east side of WV Rt. 15 ‹ 15 miles from Webster Springs, WV, on the road to Valley Head, WV. This was announced by Konnie Conrad of Kernersville, NC, the chairperson of the 2003 reunion Furbee¹s latest book, published by John Wiley and Sons of New York, is entitled ³Outrageous Women of Civil War Times.² Furbee teaches journalism at West Virginia University; conducts workshops around the country on publishing newsletters and books and still manages to turn out an array of historically important books, Mrs. Conrad said. Other books include ³Outrageous Women of Colonial Times,² ³Women of the American Frontier,² ³Shawnee Captive: The Story of Mary Draper Ingles,² Anne Bailey, frontier scout. There is a vast array of characters and life stories portrayed in her books ranging from the outrageous to the simply courageous. They helped turn the tide of American history. They include the stories of Deborah Samson, a servant girl who disguised herself as a man to become the first female soldier to fight in battle; Anne Bailey, the 32-year-old widow who put on her husband¹s buckskin jacket and took his place scouting in the wilderness; Elizabeth ³Mumbet² Freeman, a slave who won her freedom in a landmark court case in the 1780s, ditched the slave name her master had given her and inspired others to follow in his footsteps. Also, there are stories of Peggy Arnold; Phillis Wheatley; Esther Reed; Deborah Sampson and Abigail Adams, ³the mother of our country as surely as her husband, John, was one of its forefathers. The reunion will take place over a two-day period with a genealogy fair in Webster Springs on Saturday, Aug. 30. The fair will feature displays of genealogy material, photos and memorabilia and give visitors a chance to learn more about their ancestors and their lines through the exhibits put on by researchers specializing in families with West Virginia roots. The reunion has been held over a time span dating back to 1926 and once was the largest in the state in the 1930s and 1940s when it attracted 5,000 to 10,000 people. Its attendance has declined in recent years. But its organizers believe the change to Labor Day weekend may help attract more younger, working families who have not had a chance to attend in the past because of the problem of getting back home to work early Monday morning. This will give them Monday to travel. Konnie Conrad expressed a desire that other allied families now conducting Labor Day weekend reunions will consider having their reunions on the Saturday preceding the Sunday reunion gathering. There are several on the Labor Day weekend. Mrs. Conrad said she wanted to make clear that the reunion grounds would be made available Saturday for the more nuclear family reunions. The public is invited to attend the reunion, as nearly everyone is related by blood or friendship to everyone else in the area. Mary Rodd Furbee's latest book, "Outrageous Women of Colonial Times," is available through John Wiley & Sons Inc., 605 third Avenue, New York, NY, 10158. It can be ordered toll free at 800-225-5945. 1. Re: [WVPENDLE] lambert ancestors m
    2. Hello There is some history of Lamberts in Mortons Hist of Pendelton Co. Albert Summerfield has ties to Lamberts. He did family sheets on John Lambert born 1798 and died 1862 and he wed Hannah Cassell chirldren.: Adonijah, John C, Jacob , Solomon, Sarah A., Hannah, Samuel A, Albinus, James B. A. , Phoebe, Nancy. I have several pages on Lamberts given to me by Barbaba Haney who has done research on Lamberts . That is one of the lines she traces. I have a Matthias Lambard born abt. 1695 in Upper Rhine Valley, Germany and died 1756 in York, Pa. There are several pages and it traces the family to Va which later became Wv. I didn't see the names you mentioned but it doesn't trace all the children. Robin in Lakeland

    3. Moses Teter was not mentioned in his father's will dated 31 Mar 1841. The guess is that he died before this date. As to his birth date, I have seen 1774, 1788/90, and 1790. I do not know which is correct. I do not know where he was buried. Samuel Teter, son of Moses, is listed in the second book of Pendleton County Graves (1980). According to this he is buried in the Hedrick Cemetery. The number used in the book is 23. It is in the Riverton area.
