He was born in Brucetown, Frederick County, Va., October 21, 1840 and was a son from John O’Ferrall’s second marriage, to Jane Lauren Green. It would appear the O’Ferrall’s lived in the Brucetown vicinity for about ten years. In 1850 the family appears on the Morgan County, Virginia census. In May of 1861, Charles joined the 12th Virginia Cavalry (CSA), at Winchester, as a private. Later in the war he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. After the war Charles Triplett O’Ferrall graduated from the law department of Washington College, Lexington, Va., in 1869 and was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Harrisonburg, Va. He was a citizen of Harrisonburg from 1869 to 1893. He was elected to a term has Governor of the State of Virginia 1894-1898. At least three generations of O'Ferralls lived part of their lives in or near Martinsburg, WV (VA).. John O'Ferrall, father of Charles also participated in variousbusiness ventures. For example he owned a grist mill and the associated land. John and his family ran a hotel/coffee house near Berkeley Springs. John also served as clerk of court. Any additional information on the O'Ferrall family (especially Charles) would be greatly appreciated
