I am Ellen Manning McGuire, living in Montgomery, Alabama. I was born in Cumberland, Maryland almost 65 years ago. I lived in Paw Paw for several years before my parents moved to Alabama. Over the years with my parents and later with my husband and children I have been fortunate to be able to visit. To me this area is so beautiful. One of the best sights is the ride from Berkeley Springs to Paw Paw. The view is out of this world. Someone told my years ago that it was the 14 wonder of the world. It rates about 1 with me. Trains ran around and through Paw Paw. One of the finest sounds was the train coming around the mountain across the Potomac. Some morning at my home here I can hear our local train, but I doesn`t have the same sound. The "hills" around Paw Paw were full of apple trees. I remember making apple butter at the Methodist Church in Paw Paw. I remember Tom Kerns` store. I still keep in touch with Betty his daughter. My family names are Manning, Myers, Weller's from Washington Co. Maryland. Pete Manning and his son James(Polk) Manning ran a ferry. On my grandmother`s side are the Childers and Gross families from Morgan Co. I am interested in local information and finding out more about these families. I am hoping to make a trip up this fall or in the early spring. If you have an exceptionally cold winter, let me know because just about every time we visit there is a heat wave. Ellen Manning McGuire
