He was the son of James and Elizabeth Powell Alderton born in Morgan County on June 21, 1874. He was a retired farmer. Surviving, wife former Nellie Haymaker whom he married in 1901 in Paw Paw, seven children, Harry C Woodrow; “Bud”, Cumberland; Melvin in the US Army, Ft. Bliss, TX, Ralph at home, Mrs. Elsie Strong, Binghampton, NY, Mrs. Reva Allison, Woodrow; and Mrs. Eva Fischel, of Woodrow, one brother, Jesse of Martinsburg, one sister, Mrs. Pearl Alderton of Washington, DC.
