    2. Virginia Kelly
    3. Hi All, Is there anyone in the Morgan-Hampshire Co. area related to William Bailey abt. 1790 who married Deanna (Diane) Hartley. I know they lived in Morgan Co. in the 1830 census with 7 in the family but I cannot find them after that. I know a lot about Deanna but nothing about William. I am also related, one way or another , to Boxwells, Hartley, House, Farrell, Caton, Johnson,Shambaugh, Athey and probably half of Hampshire and Morgan Co. in the early to middle 1800's. Thanks , Virginia

Surnames: Hanway/Hanaway Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FEC.2ACE/18.1 Message Board Post: Did anyone ever answer your query about Capt. Samuel Hanway? Samuel never married. He enticed his brother Jesse, my ggggrandfather, to join him in Morgantown. In his old age he moved into the Morgantown home of Jesse's son John and Samuel left his estate to John; I found a typed copy of Samuel's (and Jesse's and John's, and William A.'s, John's son) in Morgantown. Some of Samuel's papers were passed from father to son and I have Samuel's 1784 commission as "Major of the militia of the Commonwealth of Virginia" signed by Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. I also found Samuel's 1830's request for a Revolutionary War pension in the National Archives in DC.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FEC.2ACE/959 Message Board Post: To Whom It May Concern: My name is Lauren Bobier and I am an editor with Arcadia Publishing in Charleston, SC. I hope that you can offer me some guidance and assistance. As the editor responsible for all of our West Virginia titles, I'm very interested in informing Morgan County area historians, genealogists, archivists, community leaders, and museums about the opportunities that we offer. We publish a popular series of photographic histories called Images of America, which chronicles the histories of communities, towns, and neighborhoods throughout the country. I do want to emphasize that, unlike many local history publishers, we are not a vanity press. Rather, we finance the entire publication and pay royalties to the author, which makes it a great fundraiser for organizations. I am looking to add a photographic history of Morgan County to our 2005 program. If you would like to receive more information about our company, I will be happy to put together a package and mail it to you. Please pass along my contact information to anyone else you know who might be interested in working on a photographic history of Morgan County. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon! Lauren Bobier Acquisitions Editor Arcadia Publishing, 420 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FEC.2ACE/957.2 Message Board Post: I myself did an update on the tombstones of Greenway Cemetery about 5 years ago. I'm not sure if I can help you with location and dates. But I would be more than willing to try. When I went to the cemetery myself I found too many mistakes with dates, name spelling, and info in general, when using the book on Morgan County cemeteries. This led me to do my own listing of info from the tombstones themselves of Greenway. The book that was done of the cemeteries in Morgan County is about 25 years old and out-of-date. It is a good source book for when you are in-a-pinch when you need to locate where a person may have been buried before 1980. That is, if that person has erected a stone or a funeral marker on their grave site. But, just remember, it is best to locate a person with first hand knowledge or records for prove. Books and people do make mistakes when transcripting and printing material. We are only human. And, remember that many of the cemeteries listed have no office at! all to get info from but by eyes only. Many were buried by private undertakers before the 1880's and then some later dates in those days. No records I have found have ever been kepted of them, or passed on. Do hope the lady at the office can help you or just put you on the right path. Good Luck. If i can help you or anyone else, please email me at peachesandcream@myexcel.com ~Gloria

I agree that the Johnson's are a tough bunch to trace. According to 3 different census, the John Johnson family that I am looking for were from Kentucky. Maybe Morgan Co., but don't know for sure. I too am looking for a John Johnson family. I found them on Morgan Co Ky census for 1850 and 1860. This is what I have from the 1860 census: John Johnson b 1819 Ky, wife-Almena b 1821 Ky, child- Huldah b 1838 Ky, Elizabeth b 1841 Ky, Samuel b 1843 Ky, Perry b 1848 Ky, Martha b 1853 Ky, Hiram b 1854 Ky, James E b 1855 Ky. The person on this list that I am trying to validate is PERRY. He was my gr-gr-grandfather and know nothing about his ancestry. Have info about his marriage, children and approximate date of death. Also that both his parents were born in Ky. But cannot find anyone researching him or his family. Any information or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    3. Dear Sir The yearly Land Tax records are most likely in the Court House. If they are not, then they are in the State Archives for West Virginia. The pre Civil War yearly Personal Property Tax records in are in the Virginia Library in Richmond. I was able to order the microfilm for the Personal Property Tax rolls from the Virginia Library through inter-library loan at my local library. 1. ARNICA Responses - WERE THEY RECEIVED?
    2. Sharon Banzhoff
    3. JUST CURIOUS- The original Arnica query was posted to a Message Board at Ancestry.com and was routed to the Morgan Co. List. The two responses that were posted went directly to the Morgan Co. Rootsweb List. I checked the message board and of course the responses are NOT showing there. IF the person posting the query is NOT a subscriber to the Morgan Co. Rootsweb List, will he/she even get the response? Or does the response have to be posted DIRECTLY to the message board to be received by the person posting the query? Sharon
