Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FEC.2ACE/960.1 Message Board Post: I recognize the name in the old newspaper clipping, "Rev. M. L. Maysilles". In the early 1970's when I was a kid, I discovered in an abandoned house in Sleepy Creek, West Virginia, an decorative brick with that name on it. The brick had pictures of deer and flowers impressed in it and the date "1894" and the address, "Rev. M.L.Maysilles W.3.St Frederick,MD" The house was obviously the residence of Rev Maysilles, who was a farmer and beekeeper, judging by the old correspondence and farming and beekeeping magazines that remained. I do not recall exactly, but I think these artifacts bore dates in the 30s and 40s.

    1. German Umlaut Toolbar
    2. Branches & Lil' Twigs
    3. Hello fellow researchers, I am just sharing what may be of help to someone. GermanAssistant is a tiny application (free download) providing an unobtrusive and flexibly configurable German characters add-on toolbar (small icon) equipped with extraordinary AutoPaste feature that sits on top of your screen. Using it is simple and easy to assist you in entering into your document the special German characters. Hence, Guenther with a click of a mouse becomes Günther, Schroeder becomes Schröder, an improperly spelled Mueller with a mouse-click becomes Müller, Schroeder becomes Schröder and Strasse becomes what it is really supposed to be Straße, UNIVERSITAET becomes UNIVERSITÄT. Can be used with any genealogy or word processing program; where ever you may need to insert a German umlaut. http://www.geocities.com/visualfantasy_studio/

SHE GAVE MY GRANDPA A PACKET OF INFO (GENERATION CHARTS) THAT SHE HAD WORKED ON HER WHOLE LIFE. I HAVE THOSE AND HAVE BEEN WANTING TO SHARE THEM FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. WHAT SHE HAS LISTED STARTS WITH JOHN HENRY KERNS. HENRY ALLEN IS WHO SHE HAS AS HIS SON. WOULD LOVE TO SWAP INFO WITH ALL YOU COUSINS. HERE ARE A COUPLE OF PARAGRAPHS SHE WROTE. THESE ARE NOT THE GOLD MINE, THE GEN CHARTS ARE- AND I THINK I HAVE MOST OF THEM. ANYWAY, HERE'S HER WRITINGS. when the kerns' came to this country from ireland some time before 1819, they settled in berkeley springs w. va. then was known as bath va. john henry kerns was born in ireland in 1777, but don't know if his son henry allen kerns was born in ireland or america. the kerns' lived on a farm about 2 miles out of town,on a farm known in my day as the barker farm in the scott store section. i have often heard my grandfather john w. kerns tell me about coming to town with his brothers and going to school in the basement of the old methodist church. he also told me about the things they did for what they called fun in those days. there was a large family and all who died here in bath before 1871 all are buried in the old english graveyard located in the southwest part of berkeley springs, at the foot of warm springs mountain. at that time it was a well kept graveyard and many people are buried there. but to the sorrow of the town it has completely grown up in trees and und! erbrush. quite a number of stones are still there, and that is where i got a lot of my information. the kerns' lot at one time was enclosed with an iron fence, but that has all fallen down over the many years, as most of all the other stones of other people, but they are still there. written by ollie m. foutz granddaughter of john w. kerns ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ the kerns family came to this country from ireland some time before 1819 and settled in virginia, florida and ohio near cincinnatti. but i only have records of those settling in virginia. part of which later became west virginia 1863. in the Old English Graveyard located in the southwest part of the town of Bath (now known as berkeley springs) at the foot of warm springs mountain are the tombstones of the kerns' graves of which i have gotten a lot of records. according to one tombstone John Henry Kerns was born in 1777 in ireland and died in berkeley springs oct. 13, 1819, at the age of 42 years. he was married to nancy hix of scotland. (no record of when she died or where she is buried. john henry and nancy hix kerns son henry allen was born oct 12, 1815 or 18. (different dates in 2 different records.) and died oct 12, 1873 in berkeley springs w. va. and is buried in frienship graveyard about three miles out of town. no record whether he was born in this country or in ireland. john henry kerns' offspring are the only ones i have records of, but there are a lot of kerns' through this section of the country that i don't know about. written by ollie foutz

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FEC.2ACE/965.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks so much for the information! Is your book available thru ILL or do you still have copies for sale? I descend thru Marietta Grove and her marriage to Charles W Fearnow. This is my only connection to the Grove Line. I think it is wonderful that you own one of the originals and i sure wouldnt sell it either. I was not aware of the number of families involved. There are many of them for the Ferneaus and Mcinitres of which there were two unknown artists, some were obviously done by a second individual who tried to replicate the style of the first but they are equally impressive in their attempt and the fact that they have survived so long for us to enjoy. I would love to see this dentists book when it is completed, and would love to get a copy of yours as well if it is still available. If you or your freind are interested i can send the link to where i found the Grove fraktur online. this auctioneer has had fraktur which sold for upwards of $150,000 lately. A marri! age fraktur of a John Fulkerson to a Catharine SWhair( possibly the S is a middle initial with Whiar the last name)is also online but i am unfamiliar with these individuals. Again I thank you for your help, Sincerely Julie

Surnames: Grove, Streit Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FEC.2ACE/965.1 Message Board Post: Mary Elizabeth Grove (1826-1828) was a daughter of Abraham and Sidney (Wright) Grove. She was buried next to her parents in the Heironimus cemetery at Whitacre, Frederick County, VA. See the Chapter 23 "Untangling the Grove Roots and Family Branches in Back Creek Valley," in my book Frederick County, Virginia: Settlement and First Families of Back Creek Valley, 1730-1830. The artist for the frakturs done for the Grove and other families (Hott, Streit, Marple, et al) is unknown. He is called the unknown artist by fraktur researchers. A dentist in Winchester (his name escapes me just now) is writing a book on frakturs, which includes all of those known to be done by "The Unknown Artist." I might add that these frakturs are highly prized, the originals bringing $10,000 each. I possess one original of my 2-freatgrandmother Margaret Streit, which I will not sell. Wilmer L. Kerns
