Hello, Are there any researchers of the Levi HENRY, b. Abt 1842, m. Mary E. WISENBURG, b. Abt 1850 family on this list? I am particularly looking for information pertaining to their son Levi Franklin HENRY, b. Sep 1872 m. Anne L. SELBY, b. Feb 1887 and their family. Thank you, Fran
Thanks for responding. The Peter listed in the book is his grandfather (I've used the book when I was at the Gen Society). I suspect his father (also Peter) is in Mt Tabor (his 2 wives are), but his grave must be unmarked. Since Peter W and Lena were living in Rock Gap when she died, I think she may also be in an unmarked grave In Mt Tabor - but can't find anything to prove it. I'm not sure why Peter W is in Magnolia and not with the rest of the family in Mt Tabor. His second wife is in Greenway (according to her death cert). -----Original Message----- From: cbailey@tctc.com To: deeelkay@aol.com Sent: Tue, 5 Sep 2006 10:06 AM Subject: Re: [WVMorgan] Magnolia Cemeteries I have a cemetery book (Graveyard History of Morgan County)that says Peter Shirley is buried in Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery. However, the date of death is given as June 30, 1884 (aged about 92 years). Could this be a father? This Peter's wife was Elizabeth S, who died May 12, 1868 (aged 62)and is buried in the same cemetery. There is a second wife Mary E who died August 27, 1891 at age 53. This book may only give early cemetery information. > > From: deeelkay@aol.com > Date: 2006/09/05 Tue AM 07:25:13 EDT > To: WVMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [WVMorgan] Magnolia Cemeteries > > I recently got a lead on the burial location my husband's g-grandfather, Peter Wesley Shirley (d. 1926). I recently got a lead on the burial location my husband's g-grandfather, Peter Wesley Shirley (d. 1926). According to his death certificate, he was buried in Magnolia and the undertaker was in Paw Paw (the undertaker's name looks like W.D. Parks). I looked at topo maps for the area and there appear to be two cemeteries near Magnolia - Horn Cemetery (a little south east) and Cherry Orchard Cemetery (a little north west). Does anyone know anything about these cemeteries? I'm also curious the best way to get to Magnolia since I've looked at a state map and mapquest and it sorta looks like 'you can't get there from here.' I also hoping that Peter's first wife (Lena Michael, d. 1907) is buried with him as I've not been able to find any information on her burial location. They were living in Rock Gap when she died. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Diana ________________________________________________________________________ Check out AOL.com today. Breaking news, video search, pictures, email and IM. Local Hagerstown MD Newspaper - http://www.herald-mail.com/?module=displaystory&story_id=144321&format=html Just heard on Noon News from Channel 25 in Hagerstown MD that the courthouse records were being moved to Chicago to be freeze-dried and cleaned. They will be unavailable for at least 3 weeks. Better that than forever!! Ginger
Additional Pictures - http://inthepanhandle.com/ The galleries offer a large collection of additional pictures including a visit by Governor Manchin. New online edition of the Morgan Messenger today due today but is not currently online at 11:14 a.m. I saw them loading the large record books into a truck on the news. Hopefully damage is minimal. I thought I had heard that no documents were lost.....I pray that is the case. However, one article states they saved 3/4 of county records. Maybe that was 3/4 that were unharmed. Guess they are still assessing the situation and we'll have to wait to hear more to be sure. Berkeley Springs has only one main street straight through town...........this must have been a traffic nightmare! Ginger
Keep us up to date on this, Sharon. We won't hear much down here in New Orleans. I don't know if you all have heard or not but the Morgan Co. Court House was gutted by fire around 4:30am this morning. I have heard so many different stories about the records, I don't know what the real story is. I have heard what records didn't get burned, got wet. I heard the older records didn't get harmed. I heard they took the old record books somewhere and laid them out on the floor to dry. I don't know what is true. I am going to watch the news to see what the latest is. I don't think there is anything filmed in the court house. I am just sick. Let this be a warning to those who need to get copies of documents - DO IT NOW - DON'T PUT IT OFF (like I did). Sharon

Hello everyone, My apologies for this vague request for information. I have posted all the information I have, I am hoping someone will recognize the people, even with limited information available. In the 1880 census, for Hancock, Washington County, MD, Jarius STECKMAN, his wife Elizabeth had a granddaughter age 13 living in their household. The granddaughter, Ann E. BROWN, age 13 (b. c. 1867), MD, her parents both b. PA. Does anyone know who the parents of Ann were? Does anyone know who Ann may have married? Anything, any information, would be deeply appreciated. I am very grateful and appreciative of your time and any assistance. Thank you, Fran
I am Norma Elizabeth Grove Cowherd. I am the great great great grand-daughter of John Grove (B: March 8, 1755, D: 1827) who married Mary ca: 1776 in Frederick County, VA. I am trying to establish proof that John Grove who married Mary is the son of Jacob Grove who died in 1794. His will dated 7/26/1794 names his wife Margaret, his son John Grove and James Vance as Executors. I am hoping that perhaps through John's daughter Margaret Grove that married Jacob Gibbens a link may be establish. Any help will be appreciated. Norma Grove Cowherd
Hi - I'm working on a history of the Fifteenth WV Infantry (Union) in the American Civil War. They were stationed along the B&O Railroad guarding, particularly guarding bridges, from December 1862 through Mid March 1864. Headquarters were at Sir John's Run. The companies were stationed: Co A - Water Station No. 12; Co B - Alpine Station and also Back Creek Bridge; Co C - Alpine Station; Co D - Great Cacapon; Co F - Belington, WV; Co G - Orleans B & O RR; Co H - Paw Paw; Co I - Paw Paw. Part of the time Co F was at Orleans Station also. I have completed most of the research, including visiting all of the places they were stationed there except Back Creek Bridge. However, I still have many questions. I'm hoping that some of you who are familiar with the area can help me with answers to questions from 140+ years ago. Right now I'm looking for a couple of things. First, does anyone know where Swayne's Crossroads was. I know that it was in some direction for Orleans Station. Second is there anyone out there with old photographs of the places I have mentioned? Thanks for any help anyone can give me on this. I will give acknowledgement in the book when it is completed. Joy P.S. Like most of you, I'm a genealogist too. Check out http://www.hackerscreek.com I'm webmaster there.
I am looking for Peal Leata LYONS in the 1910 Census. In 1900 she was in Paw Paw, Morgan County, WV. In 1920 she was married and was in Cumberland, Allegany County, MD. According to my records, she was married in 1911 in Cumberland to Frank Brown COMBS. Any lookup assistance is appreciated. Thanks, Matt Combs http://mysite.verizon.net/mattcombs1/index.html
