Descendancy Narrative of Henry Lake I. Henry Lake was born in Holland. A. Nicholas Lake was born circa 1800 and married Jane Ryan. He died circa 1825 at Monroe County, VA. His estate was probated in November 1825 at Monroe County, VA (now WV). 1. Eleanor Lake was born on 16 December 1797. She married Brice Miller, son of Joseph Miller and Dolly (--?--). Marriage banns for she and James Erskine were published on 15 September 1818. She and James Erskine appeared on the census of 3 August 1850 at 39th Division, Monroe County, VA (now WV). She died on 3 June 1885 at age 87. a) Henry Lake Miller was a farmer. He was born on 19 February 1817 at Sinks Grove, Monroe County, VA (now WV). He married Mary Jane Swope, daughter of Jonathan Swope and Frances Legg, on 30 June 1842. He appeared on the census of 3 August 1850. He married Rebecca Martha Graham, daughter of ? (--?--) and Jane Graham, on 1 November 1853 at Monroe County, VA. He and Rebecca Martha Graham appeared on the census of 4 August 1870 at Mountain Cave, Fayetteville, Fayette County, WV. He married Lucinda Warren on 1 December 1881. He married Charlotte Gray on 5 November 1889. He died on 31 January 1900 at Huntington, Cabell County, WV, at age 82. (1) Marietta Miller was born on 28 May 1843 at Near Rocky Point, Monroe County, VA (now WV). She appeared on the census of circa 16 July 1850. She married John Alexander Grose, son of James Grose and Dorothy Malcolm, on 13 June 1861 at Clifty, Fayette County, VA (now WV). She died on 24 February 1864 at Greenfield, IN, at age 20. (a) Arthur Sylvester Grose was born on 24 October 1863 at Greenfield, IN. He died on 10 September 1864 at Palastine, IN. (2) Ellen Frances Miller was a poet and genealogist. She was born on 12 February 1845 at Wolf Creek District on the waters of Broad Run, VA (now WV). She appeared on the census of circa 16 July 1850. She married James Samuel Craig, son of John James Craig and Sarah Frances Hawver, on 14 November 1869 at Near McKee's Creek Bridge. (a) Sterling M. Craig was Salesman, Hutchinson-Stephenson Hat Co., Charleston, WV. He married Marie Gehrke on 7 June 1898 at Sommersville, WV. (b) Dainty Craig married (--?--) Ingelmann. (3) George Washington Miller was born on 19 June 1847 at Wolf Creek, Monroe County, VA (now WV). He appeared on the census of circa 16 July 1850. He married Elizabeth Belle Neal, daughter of Christopher Andric Neal and Annas Myles, on 2 November 1876 at Greenbrier County, WV. He died on 28 September 1895 at Clifty, Fayette County, WV, at age 48. (4) William Calvin Miller was born on 20 March 1855. He married Bettie Herring on 20 September 1892. He died on 16 August 1897 at age 42. (a) (--?--) Miller died as an infant. (5) Melcena Madora Miller was born on 7 March 1861. She married Luther Powhatan Graham, son of David Graham and Sarah Alderson, on 23 March 1882. She married (--?--) Lyons. She married Alexander George Wells on 4 July 1889. She died in 1905 at CA. (a) Cecil Victor Graham was born on 23 March 1883 at Clayton, WV. He married Anna Mae Ripley on 10 June 1906 at Little Rock, AR. He died on 10 August 1968 at age 85. He was buried after 10 August 1968 at Beaumont, TX. i) Pauline Ellen Graham died. She was born on 13 March 1907 at Huntington, Cabell County, WV. She married Nathaniel Robert Leatherwood on 10 November 1927 at Beaumont, TX. ii) Luther Powhatan Graham was born on 15 July 1910 at Beaumont, TX. (b) Iris Miller Wells married Homer D. Curtis. She was born on 27 April 1890. i) Clifford DeSoto Curtis married Aida M. (--?--). He was born on 8 May 1913 at Taft, CA. He died on 14 December 1950 at age 37. (c) Henry Hubert Wells Served over seas in the Canadian Cavalry during the World War, was wounded and never strong afterward. Lived with Iris after his return for about one year, then went to Northern California to work and she has never been able to locate ot find what became of him. He never married. He was born on 27 June 1893. (d) (--?--) Wells (e) (--?--) Wells (6) Melissa Jane Miller was born on 10 September 1863. She married Calvin Jackson Jones, son of John Jones and Elizabeth Talley, on 8 July 1888. She and Calvin Jackson Jones appeared on the census of 12 June 1900 at Guyandotte Township, Huntington, Cabell County, WV. She died on 7 June 1907 at Huntington, Cabell County, WV, at age 43. (a) Mabel Miller Jones married Carl Heinson. She was born on 31 October 1889. She appeared on the census of 3 January 1920 at Seattle, King County, WA. She and Calvin Jackson Jones lived in 1933 at 2815 Walnut Street, Huntington Park, Los Angeles County, CA. She died circa 1985 at CA. (b) Clyde Buffington Jones was born on 28 December 1893. (c) Lawrence Lake Jones was also known as L. L. Jones. He also went by the name of Deacon Jones. He was born on 11 July 1895 at Huntington, Cabell County, WV. He was a railroad conductor for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad from 1914 to 1956 at Peach Creek, WV. He married Thelma Elizabeth Powell, daughter of Walter Mansfield Powell and Faye Lee Lutz, on 14 December 1922 at Covington, KY. He and Thelma Elizabeth Powell lived circa 1928 at Peach Creek, WV. He was retired in November 1966 at West Logan, Logan County, WV. He died on 16 April 1968 at Clifton Forge, VA, at age 72. (d) Dorothy Dagmar Jones was born on 14 September 1899. She married Orvis Richmond Hilton, son of Lisha Martin Hilton and Hettie Anna Robertson, before 1920. She and Orvis Richmond Hilton appeared on the census of between 6 February 1920 and 7 February 1920 at Liberty Precinct, Yakima County, WA. (7) Rosa Belle Miller was born on 10 November 1868 at near Clifty, Fayette County, VA (now WV). She died on 19 April 1881 at Guyandotte, WV, at age 12. b) John M.
