Hardin Shumate - according to Monroe County File 2, Jacket 621, Hardin and Elizabeth were married 9 Jun 1806. According to Giles County Death Book 1, page 26, he died 22 Feb 1874 at age 91-2-22. According to his tomestone inscription, he died 22 Feb 1873 at age 90-2-22. The tombstone is a relatively new one and was dedicated about sixteen years ago. Whoever had the stone inscribed misread the death record or the death record is wrong? Elizabeth Leach - According to Giles County Death Book 1, page 22, she died 4 Feb 1873 at age 84 which would place her year of birth as 1788/1789. According to her tombstone inscription, she was born 27 Dec 1788/1789 and died 30 Feb 1873. If the 27 Dec part can be believed, than I would say that she as born 27 Dec 1788. I know that there is only 28 or 29 days in Feb, depending on a Leap Year. One other thing. The informant on her death record was her son Kendly Shumate who stated that Elizabeth's husband was Hardin Shumate and that her parents was Joshua Leach and Hannah ______. However, according to page 368 of Morton's History of Monroe County, Joshua Leach (who married 1798 Hannah Hawkins) was the brother of Elizabeth Leach and both were the children of William Leach and Susanna Hughes. It seem strange that Kendly listed his uncle Joshua for his grandfather William. Does anyone know anything about this? Sandy Cocoa, Florida
